Wolfie
If you get the key on the day of release does that mean you don't get all the pre-order stuff as well as the headstart?I just called i27 and they said they don't have the game yet. What i27 store has the game already? They said the same to me when i went to the store the other week, but once i got hold of the manager/owner and explained to him i wanted to buy the "Pre-Order" and that i understood the game wasn't released until the end of the month, he produced a Pre-Order envelope and sold me that, took my details and said he would be in touch once he got the boxes - maybe the person answering the phone thought you meant physical boxes and not pre-order? Its also possible hes sold out of pre-order copies as well, i guess

Gluestick
Just called i27 again. They are all out of pre-orders. They said they'll be getting standard edition games towards the end of the month but were unsure about the price. There must be somewhere else near Bangkok where someone can get the game... I might just have to order it from an online store and download the client. Any other suggestions since offgamers has run out of the beta/headstart deal? freitag1
Guys we got to make another decision. Do we roll on an Open or a Core Server? Open Server: PvP in all areas and you are always flagged for PvP. BUT and this is important you can only fight vs players in your own tier or one tier below. There are 4 tiers in the game so if you are a tier 2 player you can also fight vs tier 1 but if you are a tier 3 player and even enter the tier 1 areas you get turned into a chicken. Core Server: You can only fight in designated RvR areas and vs people in your own tier. Both server have their advantages. I love to explore all areas (also the enemy PvE area) and this only makes fun if you can also attack the folks there. The advantage of a core server is that the PvP fights are more focused and for some people that they can do quests without being worried that they get killed by others (I enjoy the constant threat though). So please just post quick your choice and why.
dekka007
I see some beta/headstart keys for sale on Ebay. You could buy one of them download the client and then buy the original copy from offgamers
Sabum
I think I would prefer open pvp.
quiksilva
I prefer core - as I like to concentrate on what Im doing, plus I often solo and being ganked by a group is no fun.
Wolfie
Open ruleset here for me... i've always enjoyed PvP
Sabum
I havent been able to log onto the game for days... honestly I've lost all interest, I know its just the beta but if this problem isnt fixed by head start.... well I just wasted all that money on CE because if I miss head start I will not play the game ever again. When will these new games get it straight... you disgruntle new customers and you WILL lose them immediately. They wont even admit that there is a problem with thousands of people having the same inability to log on.
freitag1
Open for me too. If we run around in a pack we will just have so much fun Sabum, its really annoying I wrote an email to Mythic about this and filled a bug report. Did you try changing your password and as Wolfie suggested a restart? Edited September 10, 2008 by freitag1
Gluestick
I'm downloading the client from rapidshare. Even at over 500 KB/s it's gonna take a while. Sabum, maybe I can borrow your key and see if it works for me and if so maybe I can buy your game off of you?
jimf
I'd like to vote for Core - I've always been a fan of PvP.. but when i want it... if i feel like questing or doing something else - I don't want to engage in pvp when i dont want to... sure we can all run around in a pack, but im not sure how long that will last - soon after lauch im sure everyone will be spread out in levels... i travel alot and will have to play catchup alot for example. i think in core everyone would be happy because the game is very much pvp oriented, and has more then enough imho... the open server is just going to basically add in.. ganking. Just my 2 baht
freitag1
We also have to see how the population shifts on Aussie servers. I think there will be 3-4 Aussie servers and one of them will be probably open. I really want to go to one of the highest pop servers as we are playing slightly off peak times anyway. But lets see. freitag1
Sabum I have problems as well right now. A mythic guy already responded and they are working on the problem. Seems to be a problem with our connections. See my post here: http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/sh...424#post1424424 and read the whole thread regarding this issue. Sabum
Well Im not at the point to sell the game yet, all I care about is getting in at head start (CE people get to start 2 days early) If I dont get to start early the whole point of the CE was a waste for me and I will feel ripped off. Im not too worried about core or open, since core still has pvp areas. I hate being ganked, but the added threat does make the game more fun when you have to look over your shoulder all the time. I can go either way. Yes to high pop. Reading a bit of that thread it is obvious the problem started for everyone after preview weekend and when open beta started. Yes I changed my passwords. freitag1
I wrote some more over there. ///// I tried some more and the problematic ip that doesn't work is: 206.112.191.130 After I launch WAR a connection to this IP is established then the computer downloads about 40 - 50kb and the error pops up. This is what happens in my opinion, maybe I can prove this point in 3-4 hours. Thailands internet is censored and goes through some communication authority bottleneck. In the evening hours (like right now) the Internet connection to international servers is dam_n slow because so many people are online (even though i should have 4mb adsl but that doesn't help with international connections). So I guess the connection is just too slow to download the server list in time and that's why the error comes up. I will check how many kb the application downloads later when the Internet is better and I can login. I'm pretty sure I will be able to download more kb and faster and therefore be able to connect to the server like this afternoon. If I'm right WAR should just wait a few more seconds to give us the time to download the server list.
freitag1
It was what I thought... our slow Internet connections cause the problem. We can't get the serverlist in time and get the error. A Mythic developer replied to the thread and we get a patch that should fix this problem tomorrow. Sabum
Well thats all well and good but how does that explain the tons of people NOT living in Thailand and getting the same problem? We are the serious minority here that have this problem. I wont hold my breath.
Wolfie
I understand and aprpeciate your frustrations, i've had a whole host of problems with previous games where i was already 2 weeks into Retail and i still couldn't play... stick in there buddy, also a little word to the wise, get your ISP involved NOW. 9 times out of 10 your ISP can resolve connection problems quicker than the game tech support can. I could have saved myself months of frustration and high blood pressure if i had just got my ISP involved at the beginning. Seriously, arm yourself with all the server (and patcher) IP addresses and raise a ticket with your ISP - if you have the same kind of service i received in the past you will be very pleasantly surprised
Wolfie
Also, heres the post from the Mythic Dev Guy Thank you for all of the information you have been posting. As I stated before, the error message most of you are getting is a timeout that is occurring while trying to get the server list information from our server. We have optimized the code that handles this to and we have also increased the timeout on the client side. This new code will be available when the next patch is released (should be tomorrow). Let us know if you continue to have problems after this update. Thanks, Ci-Ci

Wolfie
Ok, so after a bit of logical thought and consideration my choice of server *has* to be Open Ruleset (full pvp) My reasons for this are (and some of you wont like this) The game is the same as every other MMO out there, the game itself is simplistic, the graphics are similar to World of Warcraft, the game play is similar to World of Warcraft, in fact i will go as far as to say this game is "World of Warcraft 2" - the same 'game' with a Warhammer 'skin' and history/content. I love the way that RvR/PvP is fully integrated into the game, encouraging you to get involved at early levels, the Battlegrounds (aka Scenarios) are fun, the Public Quest system is a pure stroke of genius. Crafting doesnt seem to have a major impact on the game, its almost feels as its an 'afterthought' instead of an integral part of the game. This game, whilst good and fun right now has nothing to hold interest past your first lvl40 character. Therefore, i feel that an Open Ruleset (Full PvP) will be absolutely necessary to keep interest in the game for any length of time. We should start a new poll and go with the public vote - in fact i will do that now... /Edit - Poll created, found here... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Order-Siam-W...ne-t211846.html Edited September 11, 2008 by Wolfie
daones
I just seen this thread looking for the best way to purchase the game so i can get into headstart. I played daoc for 6 years and just stopped playing that when open beta came out. I may join the guild if you guys play on us servers? Ive always played us server with no lag. Anyway what is the best way to purchase the game online so i can get into headstart? I seen offgamers but they sell the head start and regular game seperate. My understanding was you preorder and you get the headstart with it. But offgamers are selling the open beta, headstart and bonus items for 700b.. i dont want to pay 700b to play 2 days early. Well I play on US servers right now and for the past few years in WOW.... and it sucks. Lag is not the problem. The problem is finding groups, and especially raids at MY TIME (I was getting up at 5:30 AM just to get a shot at raid loot one day!). It is impossible. I am looking forward to being on the oceanic and finally being in the right time zone. I really hope you join us on the oceanic servers. Assuming they fix my login problem..... Wolfie
Actually on the Oceanic servers the ping is only 100ms lower on my connection, which doesn't make a huge difference, but like Sabum said, the choice to go oceanic is for the grouping/raid options... Its much easier to get online with an Auzzie or Asian based group of mates and go raiding than it is to do the same with European or American... With the higher focus on RvR and Public Quests, it makes sense to get on the server where the players are closer to our timezone. I, for one, will not consider a US server *unless* the Oceanic crowd decide to declare one of the US servers and "Unofficial" Oceanic server - which i cant see happening considering the Oceanic servers are physically located in Australia anyway
quiksilva
Yup the pings will be a problem no matter where we choose to play unless Singapore ever gets a server (yeah yeah I know, but a boy can dream cant he?) So yes I agree it has to be on Oceanic and it has to have at least a medium population.
