Ugandan Nanny Visa

Featured Replies

American friends who live in Uganda are coming to visit Thailand for 42 days and are bringing their Ugandan nanny. She was given a 30 day visa, and they will probably also be given 30 days at the airport when they arrive. What is the best way for them to extend to 42 days? Can it be done on arrival, or at a Thai Embassy before they come, or do they have to wait until they get here?

If with “30 day visa” you mean a tourist visa valid for a single journey to Thailand they can, after arriving in Thailand, apply at any immigration office for a 30-day extension of stay.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

If the Americans enter on a visa waiver, isn't it true that they can only extend for 7 days?

The Americans may want to obtain a tourist visa also as airline may have a problem without onward travel in 30 days and no ticket (Thailand rule for 30 day visa exempt entry requires onward ticket proof). That would be the easy way. Otherwise they will have to leave Thailand and return for a second 30 day entry.

Is there an immigration office in Krabi, do you know?

I read on a forum posting a couple of years ago that Uganda is on a list of countries that only get 7 days' extension. Is that still true? If so, what if she gets the seven days and then overstays an extra 5 days? Will that jeopardize her chances of being allowed to come again in the future?
