Has anyone gone on a road trip to Prasaat Phanom Rung from Bangkok?

Prasaat Phanom Rung is one of the most significant Khmer monuments in Thailand. It was built in the 10th-13th century A.D. Phanom Rung was a Hindu Saivite (Shiva) monastery.

I want to organise a short two-three day trip and catch as many of the Khymer monuments as I can.

Two girls and a driver.

Any advice?

Plan for three days and you could add a visit to Pimai.

After Prasaat Phanom Rung, there is another one a few kilometers away.

Maybe stay in Khorat or Khao Yai.

You may also want to have a look at Dan Kian, not only for shopping but also if you are interested you can easily visit any of the "factory" and see the complete process of how to make a pottery.

Thanks. I've recently done Kao Yai, so I could pass it up and straight to Phimai (if I can find accommodation...(?)

This one has Kao Yai (not needed), then Phimai and on to Phanom Rung. Are there anymore around worthwhile in that area?

Three day is not possible this trip (I just need to get out of BKK for several days). But next time, most likely.

Edit: time to drag out a map for sure...

Phimai is about one hour from Khorat, so the best is to find something there, depending on your accommodation expectation.

The other temple near Prasaat Phanom Rung is Prasat Muang Tam.

If you like Khmer temple not too far from Bangkok, there is one to visit in Kantchanaburi, 2-3 hours drive from Bangkok.

No special advice except to say the roads are good all the way . Make sure to have a decent map thats all. Well worth the trip and much more impressive than Pimai IMO. While you're there check out Muang Dtam a few kilometres away at the bottom of the hill. Have a nice trip ! :o

I didn't realise there was a Khmer temple that close (and I go to Kanchanaburi often). Transport to Kanchanaburi is going cheap - 90 baht or so? They have a new spa out there, with all day programs. Throw in a Khmer temple and it all sounds like two days of bliss!

Thanks Bangyai, certainly I will. And since I now see more to do, I'm going to save this trip for a three to four day window in time. I was trying to shove it all in, but it just won't fit!
