Four Cambodians Arrested

Featured Replies

SA KAEW, Nov 21 (TNA) – Police this morning arrested a Cambodian mother and her son on charges of smuggling almost 8,000 speed pills from Cambodia to Thailand.

Two other Cambodian men were nabbed shortly afterwards as they crossed the border to pay money as bribe in bailing out the two drug smugglers.

The Cambodian mother and her son were arrested after police found 7,927 speed pills hidden in two talcum powder cans. The two were travelling in a three-wheeled taxi and were headed from a market near the border for Aranyaprathet town.

The two reportedly told police investigator that they had traveled from the Cambodian town of Poi Pet and were on their way to deliver the seized drug to a customer in Nang Rong district of Buriram province. They said they were successful earlier in delivering 100,000 speed pills to a customer in Klong Toey area in Bangkok. During the interrogation, the son identified as Nia Shan allegedly offered police 100,000 baht in exchange of releasing both he and his mother.

Police then asked Nia Shan to contact his accomplices in Cambodia to bring 150,000 baht in cash in exchange of the release. Two Cambodian men later turned up at the market with the cash and were apprehended.

Police said they believed the drug trafficking network in Poi Pet must be a major one as they could offer bribes in cash to police immediately. They said they would ask Cambodian authorities to help in a drug trafficking suppression in that country. (TNA)-E111
