Ok so my wife has a position at an international school in bangkok. we're both canadian and it was a last minute ordeal and we came in on 30 day tourist visas (we are both 29 if that matters) and are heading to cambodia this weekend to get her non-immigrant B visa. the intent is that i will be a "dependant" or kept man as the staff is calling me on her work permit once she gets it. however my 30 day stamp is up on september 11th. what should i be getting when we go to the thai embassey on monday?? or do i just go through customs and get another 30 day stamp?? or something else

please let me know....you guys seem to have it all figured out and this seems to be a grey area in the school representatives understanding.

thanks in advance

The best you could hope for at the moment is a Tourist Visa. Good for 60 days and can be extended at Immigration for another 30 days. You would probably be better off going to Vientanne Laos where you could get a Double Entry Tourist Visa.

When your Wife gets her affairs in order and is on a years extension based on her work. You can get the same year extension based as her dependant.

She really should not be working without a Work Permit.

so i apply for this at the thai embassey?? unfortunately flight plans are made for this weekend so we will need to do it in cambodia.

in regards to vientanne...the double entry would allow another visa run to get an additional 30 days without a re-entry cost??

also since i've been here for close to 30 days already does that mean that the work permit will need to be completed in 60 days to avoid going over the 90 day period??

finally i agree with the last statement...i was under the impression that it would be best to get paperwork settled in canada however we bowed to pressure and are dealing with the fallout

i would appreciate any further advice you have

If you get a proper Visa you will have no problems with 90 day rules.

The Visa is applied for at the Thai Embassy. It will give you 60 days. When the 60 days is nearly finished you go to Immigration in Thailand and get a 30 days extension at a cost of 1,900 Baht.

A double entry means you will get 2 x 60 day entries. This would give you a total of nearly 6 months with the extensions.

Your Wife will need to be on yearly extensions to enable you to be on the same. She will not get these without a Work Permit.

She also risks arrest and deportation without a Work Permit.
