She's 10 months old and her little nose is all stuffed up and runny. Her throat is dry and sore from breathing only from her mouth. She has mucus in her chest and it hurts her to caugh, and when she does she vomits out whatever is in her tummy. She gets hot then cold, so far 101.7F. She's not eating, only wants mommy's bosom. Can't sleep for more than an hour before she wakes up in pain, trying to cry. She has two big teeth cutting through her bottom gum. Poor little girl, she's so miserable.

We are well equiped with Baby Tylenol to help the pain and fever, "Little Noses" baby saline spray, to help dry up her nose, baby orajel to put on her gum, and lots of love from Khun Maa and Pa. We found that wiping her with a warm towel sooths her when she's hot, and giving her cold water to drink while she is lying flat on her back helps the pain in her throat. The meds scare us, so we use them only when she really needs them.

It's our first battle with a cold and we are sick with worry that it could turn into somehing worse. How long will this last? Should we be doing anything else?

Of course we went to the doctor, he said, "she has a cold", "It will pass". 2000 baht please. Great comfort he was!

Watch out for pneumonia. Go get an x-ray at a decent hospital.

My daughter has just recovered from the same thing 10 month old. Took her to the docs he said it's a cold and put her on Parecetemol. Few days later she came down with a fever and spent 4 days in hospital, 3 days on a Dextros drip. As long as she doesn't have fluid on her lungs she'll pull through pretty quickly. Don't worry but that's easy for me to say. Trust the docs, you have no choice. Good luck

Trust whoever you want.

On Aug. 13 I went to hospital with my daughter (17 mnths old):

Oh, just a cold; paracetamol, some paperbags (with powder to mix in water) with lung pictures and oral antibiotica (they always give you a shitload of medication - that's where they get their satangs ...).

Back on the 16th. Same Oh, no worry-shit. A big bag of medication ...

On the 18th she puked in the car - and I took her back to the same hospital and said you take a f*cking x-ray. 10 minutes later: admitted with pneumonia. It is common in this season, a lot of other children with it in the same ward ...

She's feeling better today. We put a humidifier in the room, vapor rub on her chest, and have been giving her lots of warm water to drink. She must have slept 22 hours yesterday! But hopfully the worst is over.
