Samak Found Guilty By Court, Must Resign

Keep bashing the PAD, their petty crimes are sure worse than the above mentioned by those who are in power (or going to be in power (again)).

Best regards.....

Thanh

Treason I believe is among the charges against the PAD leaders. Treason is not a petty crime.

The Guardian editorial is a mockery.

"that he gave the few baht he earned for it to his driver"

Is this ignorant person for real? Does he have any idea about salary levels in this country, if this statement was even true?

As some posters here have proven before, one doesn't have to be smart or talented to be a Journalist. One just have to be willing to sell ones soul.

Thank you for your perceptive analysis of the Guardian article.I think you have zeroed in on the article's weakness in your point about salary levels.Clearly the writer does not live in Thailand and does not understand the unique nature of Thai culture and politics. He would be well advised to monitor our discussions on Thai Visa where he could learn a great deal, especially from our very frequent posters. The jury is still out but it seems likely that the exiled one is playing his old tricks by bribing journalists. Why don't you write a letter to the Editor of the Guardian setting out your views?

It is delusional to think that oppostion to Samak renomination is confined only to PAD supporters.

>>>

They are digging their own grave - people's faith in politics is at the all time low as it is. Whatever Sondhi is proposing - it can't get any worse than now.

I hope the following is a joke....
PPP to renominate Samak as PM : Ubon MP

Chuwit Pitakpornpairob, an Ubon Ratchathani MP, told reporters during a lunch break that the meeting finished voting which saw Samak picked up as a candidate for the position.

.

If the above is true, that is sick! Sicker even yet, will be the people who will defend the above move.

I'm going for lunch. :o

Based on what the PPP have done so far in terms of confrontationalism I fully expect them to renominate Samak. However, I would like to be pleasantly surprised.

Remember the corpses of Chaiya and Surapong were dragged back from a stake through the heart by the courts. And even though Samak was caught lying and according to Crispin with poorly fabricated documents he'll probbaly also be brought back form his coffin.

Hammered, he has been officially renominated.

One quote from one person at a lunch break.

It's not finished yet. No final decison.

He has been officially renominated. No final decision because Samak needs to accept the nomination. Maybe he won't, but the very fact that he has been renominated says a lot in itself.

As I recall it was only the party executives that were banned from politics for 5 years. The non-executives weren't.

It'll be interesting to hear specifically who was breaking their banishment....unless selecting the next Prime Minister is not considered as political involvement.

Let's not forget that on Sept. 25th, the appellate court is supposed to announce its decision on whether to uphold a lower court's decision to sentence Samak to 2 years in jail for libel. While a delay may be granted so Samak can go to the UN and explain what is going on in Thailand (this will be fun), the court's decision is imminent and the lower court's decision is expected to be upheld.

PPP wants Samak's return

The majority of PPP’s MPs on Thursday afternoon voted for sacked PM Samak Sundaravej to be re-elected as premier, according to Deputy Spokesman Suthin Klangsaeng. Sutin said most MPs still see Samak as the most suitable person for the premier’s post. PPP Spokesman Kuthep Saikrajang said Samak did not do anything to damage the country. He said his cooking programme case is a minor mistake because he only misinterpreted the law and did not involve in corruption or had bad intentions. Lieutenant Kuthep said Samak is a fighter for democracy. Samak spent just five minutes at the parliament to sign his name on

If the Cabinet goes with him on that one, too... it would be Chaiya's third time in three months to be removed from a Cabinet position by court order. Surely that's a record even by Thai standards.

Banharn pleads for time to name PM, warns about "Toom, Toom"

Chart Thai Party leader Banharn Silapa-archa on Thursday said the name of the new prime minister should be finalised Friday around 7.30 am ahead of the House vote on the same morning.

Banharn said the prime minister would come from the People Power Party although at this juncture it is uncertain on who will be nominated for House vote. The contenders are Samak Sundaravej, Somchai Wongsawat and Sompong Amornwiwat.

Once Samak returned to be be the PM, he should continue to host the cooking show as a "guest". This time he would be careful and make sure that a contract is written up to state that he is "only a guest, and receive no payment"; hence not moonlighting as a "part time employee". THIS SHOULD GET BACK AT THE JUDGES, AND ALL THE FOREIGN MEDIAS THAT MAKE FUN OF HIM BEING BOOTED AS A COOK. :o:D:D

Another classic. So by the end of the month his PM employment record is probably going to look like this:

1. Sacked.

2. Sacked and jailed.

3. Dissolved and banned (sacked!) from politics.

Go team!

What's this "Toom toom" warning from Banharn?

Samak's Sept 25 ruling is supposed to be final, though some people think that he still can appeal to the Supreme Court.

If it goes against him, he'd be removed from office twice in a month, not quite Chaya's record but then he is the PM, not some lowly minister.

Bring on the "new politics" - the old one sucks like never before.

We seem to forget the PAD leaders are facing charges of treason and attempting to overthrow democracy. Yet their crimes are overlooked by some here in pursuit of the elusive object of their hatred.

a, I have no "hatred against Thaksin". Him and his wife are futitive criminals on the run. What I take issue with, is a corrupt government who is still in bed with him..refusing to revoce his diplomatic passport, consulting with him on the phone about who should be next Prime Minister, etc.

b, The treason charges are a joke. The PAD are the ones who want to make this country better and more accountable and transparent.

c, Although taking their peaceful civil disobedience beyond what the law allows, by occupying government house is illegal, it is seen by many, including myself, for the good of Thailand in the long run. There is a difference between robbing the country blind (Thaksin) and people who are trying to change the system to prevent this from happening in the future (PAD)

d, Sondhi and the other PAD members charged, are not going anywhere. They look like they are quite ready to face the consequences of their actions (however they may be perceived in the future), without running off to seek asylum, Unlike corrupt Thaksin, who is now seeking political assylum in England.

Talking of libel cases, what happened to the libel case against Somkiat Pongpaibool. Did that ever happen or is it scheduled?

Then I think he had a libel case against Karul (of flying ninja kick fame).

Might as well sort them all out I suppose.

Samak's libel case was from inferring that deputy BKK governor received a BMW as a kickback. I can't remember though if he named him or not. Can it be libel if you don't name the person?

It has been said often in many countries that the law is an ass. Which basically means that the law is not always perfect in providing justice.

When a PM can be sacked for appearing on a cooking show (for payment) --- the law is an ass.

When the same now ex-PM can be legally reinstated a few days later, -- the law is an ass.

Precisely! And doesn't that put a question mark over their entire thought process /logic

or indeed lack of it regarding how sensible or otherwise any Thai law is? And doesn't it

make you wonder about the conception and interpretation of the myriad of rules and regulations

in this country ( which don't seem to be anywhere near as tough and complex anywhere else )

regarding immigration and investment criteria by foreigners ? has anyone actually thought

in their midst how many potential foreign investors have been put off by their imperfect laws ?

So Thaksin called and offered advice. Big deal. "If" he is helping to bankroll the party perhaps his opinion might be important. His political background and experience would certainly carry some weight.

Its not uncommon for past leaders in western democracies to voice an opinion on who might be best to lead their party.

The fact that Thaksin is on the run for tax evasion does not make his advice any less credible. If they locked up every crooked politician in Thailand there wouldn't be anyone to run the country. Ultimately it will be up to the coallition to elect a leader of their choosing.

And of course Thaksins brother in law has as much right to nominate as anyone else. I doubt anyone here would accept being barred from a job because of something their brother in law did as fair.

The discussion in this forum seems to have degenerated to a childish level of late with sniggers and sneers making up the bulk of some posters content.

what is his qualification other than he is thaksins' brother-in-law?

many of the PPP members are related to the banned TRT members, are they qualified to run a government? i won't even trust them to run a kinder garten...
