Mmmm. Reports that Newin's boys all 73 of them wont vote for Somchai. Interesting in a farcical sort of way if true

Opinion of my wife (might be true or wrong, but interesting idea): The groups don't want to get a minister position or some promise for the future anymore...They are afraid that the government won't stay long, so they want money cash.....but the others don't want (or can't) pay.

As Wednessday...Today is the perfect day to rise the price....

These guys are so incompetent, they can't even steal while in office! They have to initiate one policy or another to get hands on the budget - no can do.

Is that the last stage of nepotism and corruption?

No is the obvious answer; but an explanation would be clearly against forum rules.

PAD - latest wish list

I suppose you call it the latest edict or whatever

Nation - peoples revolution

Now they will only be satisfied with a peoples revolution.

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has come up with a new proposal to establish an interim government in what it calls;People Revolution Government; that is totally clean, accountable, and removable besides allowing greatest public participation.

Had to smile about the totally removable bit. Can't even evict these guys from govt. house, do they really expect anyone to believe that they would let go of any governing power they got hold of.

They want a "totally clean, accountable government". They don't want to be the government and they told that a 1000 times.

Oh, so that Kwanchai who was offering to pay 10,000 baht for a head of a killed PAD leader is actually a nice fella fighting for his freedom?

That's a symptom of the rift in Thai society today, and the PAD's so-called "new politics" ideas (70/30 and so on) are only increasing that rift. Any proposal how to reverse course?

You have completely misunderstood the 70: 30 aspect of the new politics. This was only ever a thought whispered in the mud behind the bogs on the Government House lawn by someone (almost certainly in the pay of Snowball, I mean Thaksin) claiming to be Sondhi. In fact the PAD is not proposing to disenfranchise anyone, just allow qualified people (in the opinion of PAD) to vote several times.Indeed under the PAD agenda (full details to be promulgated in the course of time) the majority of the Thai people will be represented properly for the first time. How ignoble of you to suggest the PAD is other than a unifying force representing the best that Thailand has to offer. To show you how wrong you are the PAD would be quite prepared to put its manifesto (full details to be promulgated in the course of time) to the country in a free and fair election.....on second thoughts, perhaps not.

Quote from The Nation:

"Chamlong said the PAD has not yet set the detail on how the People Revolution Government or "Prachapiwat Government" could be formed but he said the PAD was ready to forgo its "new politics theory" of having appointed MPs 70 per cent and elected MPs 30 per cent.

"It does not need to be 70/30. We just cite it as an example because we do not want 100 elected MPs and Senators because that would open a way out for them to take over Parliament,'' he said."

1. They're backing off already from the 70:30 rule (which was RECONFIRMED yesterday). I'm curious what it will become now from this bunch of weirdos.

2. They always said, in the beginning, that they would walk away, once Samak was gone but now they change their minds and will stay until everybody is gone, linked to present/previous governments. Fine with me...

3. BUT, is the PAD after Power....? Nooooooooooooo of course not. They will quietly go home after the present government is toppled, gone, wiped away....RIGHT ?

...or not ? :D

4. Read my lips: PAD is after TOTAL POWER with at least a 51% voting power and that is......? yes: Totalitarian Power.

Poor Thai people who don't see that yet, as some Farang here. :o

73 MPs of "Friends of Newin" group will not vote for Somchai

The so-called "Friends of Newin" group of 73 People Power Party MPs announced Monday that they would not vote for acting Prime Minister and Deputy PPP Leader Somchai Wongsawat when the House elects the new prime minister.

The announcement was made during a press conference held by Boonjong Wongtrairat, Supachai Photisu, and Pongphan Soonthornchai.

Boonjong said his group agreed during a meeting that it would not support the choice of Somchai as the next Prime Minister.

Boonjong declined to say whom his group would support for the next Prime Minister, but his group wanted the PPP executive board to change its decision before the PM's election by the House on Wednesday.

PPP resolves to nominate Somchai to PM post despite opposition from 73 MP's

The People Power Party resolved Monday to nominate deputy leader Somchai Wongsawat to the post of the prime minister, deputy secretary-general Sukhumpong Nguankham said.

He said the party was confident that it would be able to explain the issue and convince 73 MPs, who are supporters of former Thai Rak Thai party executive Newin Chidchob, to support Somchai before Wednesday when the House is scheduled to elect the new prime minister.

The 73 MPs vowed to withhold support for Somchai, saying he was not a suitable choice.

Seems that "Somchai for PM" isn't the only issue that Newin's friends disagree with the rest of PPP about...

PPP faction calls for reconsideration of PM candidacy

The Newin’s Friend faction of the People Power party (PPP) requested the Party’s executive board reconsider its resolution on the prime minister candidacy, otherwise they will exercise their right as members of the parliament to vote for a PM candidate of their choice.

PPP MP of Nakhon Ratchasima province, Boonchong Wongtrairat, who is a member of the Newin’s Friend faction says the Party’s PM candidate should not be a person who can be used as a reason to trigger confrontations in society. He stated further that the Party should not nominate a person for the premier post to avoid criticism and requested the Party to respect opinions of a majority of people.

Boonchong also said he disagreed with the idea to grant amnesty for former executives of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Transport Songsak Thongsri, also a member of the Newin’s Friend faction, affirmed it is the resolution of the Party’s executive board, not the whole Party, to nominate Somchai Wongsawat as its PM candidate.

Songsak also said the faction did not request the Party to reconsider the PM candidate to negotiate for a ministerial post.

Judges told to show it's common to be honest

HM the King told the Central Administrative Court judges on Monday to be brave and stick to goodness.

The King also asked the judges not to disappoint people by not keeping promises of their vows.

HM the King was granting an audience with 22 new judges led by Supreme Administrative Court President Akarathorn Chularat at Hua Hin Palace on Monday.

"I am glad to hear that you all vowed to work with honesty for the benefits of the country. It is important because people need honesty. You all can set examples for others," said HM the King.

It was important that the judges should keep promises and adhere to their vows. If they are not doing so, people will be disappointed and their disappointment will be very dangerous for the country's administration.

The judges should also be brave and stick to virtues.

The judges should be good examples for people, they should show that it is common to be honest and faithful, said HM the King.

Newin's Friends could very well end up prompting...

House Dissolution on the Table If PPP Failed to Agree on PM Candidate

The People Power Party has failed to come to an agreement on who they will propose to be nominated as the new premier. A high ranking PPP executive hinted that if the party failed to come to a decision tomorrow, House dissolution could be on the table.

Since 2 p.m. PPP members have been reviewing the executive board's choice for interim PM Somchai Wongsawat to be nominated as the party's candidate for the premiership. But until late this evening they have been unable to come to a unanimous conclusion on who the party will nominate to the premier post.

MPs will convene on Wednesday to vote for the 26th Prime Minister of Thailand. Earlier the Puen Newin (Newin's Friend) faction within the PPP has come out earlier to protest against the nomination of Somchai and threatened not to toe the party's resolution. The faction has control over around 72 PPP members.

People Power Party's deputy leader Karn Thienkaew claimed a House dissolution could be called for by noon tomorrow if the PPP failed to come to an agreement among themselves.

More on the potential for new elections....

Ruling party at odds over naming new premier; could force House dissolution

BANGKOK, Sept 15 (TNA) - The faction of People Power Party (PPP) members of parliament loyal to power broker Newin Chidchob called on the executive board of the ruling party to review its decision reached Monday to name acting prime minister Somchai Wongsawat as new prime minister to succeed Samak Sundaravej.

Last week the Constitution Court stripped Samak of his post, ruling that he had illegally accepted payments for hosting television cooking shows.

An inability of Thaksin-related party to form a united front could cause a stalemate and necessitate the dissolution of the House, and a snap election.

Deputy Transport Minister Songsak Thongsri, closely connected with Newin, said the Friends-of-Nevin faction which reportedly has more than 70 MPs at its command, urged the PPP executive board to review its resolution to name Somchai as premier for approval by a simple majority of MPs in the House of Representatives Wednesday.

Newin is a former Thai Rak Thai party executive who was banned from politics for five years for poll fraud.

Songsak said he himself was by no means negotiating for a personal future cabinet seat with the party's executive board, but warned that the 'rebel' MP's might not attend Wednesday's session or abstain from voting for Somchai, brother-in-law to former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, should he be eventually nominated.

The deputy transport minister said the PPP executive board should have listened more attentively to viewpoints of the party's rank and file and those of their constituents when it comes to choosing an appropriate person to head the coalition government.

MP Boonchong Wongtrairat, one of the Friends-of-Nevin faction MPs who staged a walkout from the special party meeting at PPP headquarters Monday in apparent protest of the PPP executive board's decision, criticised that the naming of Somchai might merely intensify the prolonged political crisis and lead to intensified confrontations among opposing demonstrators.

However, the rebel faction stopped short of confirming the speculation that they would prefer PPP secretary general/Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee instead of Somchai for premier.

Surapong confirmed that he had been assigned to inform the leadership of all the coalition parties Tuesday of the naming of a new premier by the ruling party so that it will be finally proposed to the House of Representatives for approval Wednesday.

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the anti-government coalition which has occupied Government House compound for nearly three weeks, declared they would continue their protests as they would never accept anyone from the PPP to become prime minister.

Karn Tienkaew, deputy PPP party leader, said there is the possibility that a dissolution of the House will take place if there is no consensus among the PPP party members over the nomination of Mr. Somchai as the new premier Monday night.

Go out and research who is funding this mess, and what in reality this will mean for Thailand before you claim that this will end up as representative government that will give anything to the poor of this country. If unifying the country means that the vote of the poor (about 50% of the country living on something 5 and 10k per month) will be reduced in it's power means that this in no way a "unifying" process.

This is a process that will cement the concentration of wealth in the hands of the few.

I read about one poster saying that supporting the PAD would help the unions. Not in our lifetime, much in the same way that politics is never going to be a clean business in most of Asia either.
