FYI:- this coming weekend sees a unique event in Pattaya.

To the best of my knowledge this has never before happened here in Pattaya, if you are interested in Amateur (Ham) radio then please feel free to come along to the first meeting ever held in Pattaya. Full details can be found on the RAST (Radio Amateur Society of Thailand) Forum website at the following Url:

See you there.

From their website

Further to this thread a suitable venue has now been found.

I have attached a .pdf file with the details of the venue, it's location and directions on how to get there etc. I hope that all interested parties can access the file and print it out for reference on the night.

Location: Jimbo's - Sukhumvit Soi 46/3 South Pattaya

Date/Time: Friday 19th September 2008 @ 18:00

You can see a Google Map of the location http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...&iwloc=addr

So is there an HF whip on your CBR-150? Didn't know you were a ham too!

55555 Nope not on the CBR but I have long thought about it. I was in the process of getting my amateur license in Oz before I came to Thailand and wanted to do CW QRP

Didn't know you are a ham either - small world in which we live

CW would be kind of hard to do while driving a cbr150 hi hi

di dah di di dit while you shift. Assuming you use the keyer with the left hand of course!

I used to run CW in my 1968 Rambler (HW-101 was on the drive shaft hump, Heath inverter and antenna tuner in the trunk) when I was going to college. Always ended up pulling onto the shoulder though to work DX on 15 meters. Would never try that in Thailand!

My mom's cousin, who is now in her mid 70's, went on an around the world DX expedition. She even stayed with King Hussein's family in the palace as he & the Queen were into ham radio. She has been coming to Thailand since the late 60's getting together with other ham operators here. Her last trip was 2005, but not for radio....to visit us.

She wrote a bookabout her adventures. Globetrotting via amateur Radio, by Darleen Magen. Very interesting even with all the radio jargon.

There was a friend of hers that used to have a condo in Pattaya that was a ham...named Phil I think. Not sure if he or any of the others are still around here. Some in BKK though.
