T-section Steel Bar

Featured Replies

I need some T-section mild steel bar to extend existing balustrades. It's the vertical component in the photograph.

The local steel shops all have exactly the same stock, which doesn't include this type: Approx 30 x 30 x 30mm solid T.

Has anyone seen this for sale anywhere please?

Bought T bar in steel store on road parallel to main road to Deep water port/aquarium. See Google map attachment.

Excellent, thanks!

But please give me a little more information as the where this map is: I don't know/recognise the area. Then I can calibrate your screenshot against my SatNav.

BTW, does this steel shop have cutting facilities to provide shorter lengths that will fit in a car, or do I need to go armed with an angle grinder and do it myself?

TIA, Mark.

That's corrected coordinates from the 'pin' I placed on the Goggle map, as the warehouse is 2 streets further down the main road. Note this is mainly a residential area and this steel shop is not at all obvious from a passing glance.

You take the main road to Cape Panwa from Phuket Town (only one main road in), sign posted for Deep Port & Aquarium. Pass through 2 sets of lights, and on the very long straight section of road turn right at set of traffic lights. That leads on to a small round-about, exit left road (market there), drive about 1.5 km, and look on left for small residential road, steel place has buildings on both sides of the side road.

Address 5/36-40 Moo 6, Sakdidat (??). Sorry no phone number on their receipt.

Best of luck.... :o

Oops, yes they will cut steel, no problem. Very nice people, we bought lots of steel & stainless from them.

Well, I couldn't ask for better directions than that!

Many thanks :o

Here’s a report for anyone else searching this forum for a steel supplier in Phuket.

An excellent establishment with, as LivingInKata said, helpful staff.

They don’t stock the 40mm T-section I wanted. In fact they denied that it exists. But they will make some for me from MIG-welded flat bar.

The shop has good stocks of bar, box, solid, and plate, in both mild and stainless steel, plus some aluminium.

They will cut standard 6m lengths for easy transport, but if you want lots of cuts, it’s chargeable (fair enough).

There have intelligent staff who make suggestions like: 'Why not reduce the height of your balustrade from 1.0m to 0.98m; then you can get six pieces from standard 6m stock, eliminating waste and reducing cost.'

This might sound like common sense to many, but those who have spent a lot of time in Thailand will recognise the rarity of that commodity :o

Opposite is the metalwork shop. Some quite nice extrusion machines (they fabricate roller shutters), and a lot of other plant of interest to the workshop connoisseur. I spent a long time nosing around the delicious machinery: I’m glad I was wearing loose trousers that day :D
