Normal procedure is to wire transfer funds from your overseas account as you need them.

You will need a retirement visa which requires 800k worth of Baht in bank account to support yourselves (one needs and other follows on that visa) and amount if low can be a combination with income verified by your Embassy. You also have to have a medical exam each year. You can not purchase land in Thailand so only some condos can be bought.

I would start serious study as this is not a move to make without sound plans - what medical facilities do you need and how can you pay for them would be question one as insurance may not cover you here.

I would start Google search and read up on everything to do with Thailand and the areas you plan to live and as you have specific questions post them in the appropriate forum and hope someone has the answer or can provide a path to it.

Do give us an indication of how well you know the country as it will help with answers.

As it appears that none of you is a Thai citizen, purchasing a house is probably off the limits unles you are prepared to go with some workarounds.

Renting a house should not be a problem, plenty there and many of a good quality.

Banking: Thai banks are reasonably good, ATMs are everywhere. You can use your overseas ATM card in I think all of them. Until you are settled, you can use your ATM card to take money out (some o/s banks will let you do that for free, some may charge you 150B (4US$) per transaction.

The exchange rate is set by your home bank, usually the best you can find, better than exchanging directly.

That's for a start. Other would certainly know more. Good luck and enjoy your golden years at that lovely place.

This is the largest private bankThanks for the prompt reply, regarding how well we know Thailand, I was stationed in thailand frommarch62 till april 1966, been visiting with my wife every 18 months to 2 years since then, so we have seen the changes, we have many thai friends all oer the world, we also have a couple of adopted thai children , who now live with their children in UK,we know we cannot own land, but maybe one of our thai friends can do that for us and we lease it back from them, in the many entries in your forum there are so many conflicting answers to these questions,  on a closing note, today  is the Anniversary of the first British soldier killed in armed conflict in since 1959,his name was James Box ,killed near the village of LeongNok Tha in Yasothon province on the evening of  of monday the29/11/1965.thanks for your help. nignoyBangkok Bank
