I say "Good riddance to a political clown". Any news about what the gangster Chalerm is saying about the violence?

Anyway, Thailand has around 600 generals......so there are plenty left!!!

If everyone stays for 12 days it is still 2 years....

PM climbs over fence to leave Parliament

(BangkokPost.com) - Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat had to climb over the fence of the Parliament to leave the site on Tuesday afternoon after People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) blocked all entrances to the venue to prevent all the cabinet ministers, MPs and senators from leaving the ground.

Mr Somchai, accompanied by five or six followers, left the venue by going through a senate building before climbing over the fence using a ladder.

He passed through to the Wimanmek Palace, which was situated next to the Parliament

This is probably the most responsible move that Big Jiew has ever made for the good of the country. If only he had resigned when he forced Burmese students and dissidents back over the border to Burma, many to their death, torture, disppearance and imprisonment. Or resigned as Army chief for his mounmental balls up at Ban Rom Klao, that led to reportedly 600 + Thai troops being killed. Guess the old boy has mellowed with age, if he feels "I want to show my responsibility for this action" now. :o

I've never seen so many politicians with such a lack of intestinal fortitude. If what they think they are doing is right, then they need to accept the consequences of these actions. Do you think the police are going to throw marshmellows at them?

By their particular view of face / honor, he IS showing intestinal fortitude.

His job went south on him.

He was told to do X, X didnt' work,

because he was told to do Y,

Y want very badly ascew,

So he must take one for the team and get knocked out

so the 2nd string quarter back doesn't.

Anybody knows why he left?
Just my opinion:

He was probably going to quit anyway so they all got together said to him. "As a parting gesture why don't you order the riot police in, pick the dumbest oaf of commander you know, we get our building back and we'll see that your pension fund is topped up!" Fixes several problems! :o

I think:

he was appointed to do the peace talks with the PAD.

Than they arrested two leaders and police attacked ultra violent.

How can he perform peace talks? It is impossible so he resigned.

PM to find a replacement for General Chawalit

Prime Minister is seeking out a candidate to replace General Chawalit Yongjaiyut, particularly one who possesses certain qualifications and ability to negotiate with the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat revealed his attitude towards negotiation with the PAD that following a resignation of Deputy Prime Minister General Chawalit Yongjaiyut, the government was compelled to find someone else who could be as qualified and publicly accepted as the General.

The PM also affirmed that he would not accept General Chawalit's advice on using coup as a means toward reconciliation, but instead would adhere to the principles of democracy as all sides should cooperate and help out in bringing the conflicts that have plagued the nation since 2006 to an end.

Furthermore, the PM stated that he would perform his duty with utmost efforts in solving the ongoing crises without losing any confidence and faith toward success.

The PM won't use a coup against his own government. HUUH!

Overthrow himself for reconciliation... HUH!

Order the army to take himself out of government? HUH!

What a wildly disordered statement. No presure, nope.

Its looking like Somchai is having to consider his own position this weekend under intense pressure.

The idea of a coup wthout tanks on the streets is an interesting one too. It depends what comes next although I persoanlly fully expect the PPP th continue fighting unless they irrevocably rip themselves apart.

The idea of a coup against themselves by a government was something Chavalit reportedly considered in 1997 but failed to get military backing on. His words this time were more about a coup to remove the government than to save it.

General Chavalit prepared to be probed

A working group of Gen Chavalit Yonchaiyudh insisted the former deputy premier was willing to be probed by a committee to investigate the case of police's dispersal of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protesters on October 7.

People Power Party (PPP) MP Chavalit Wichayasut, in his capacity as a member of General Chavalit’s working committee, revealed today (October 13) that he met the former deputy premier this morning. Gen Chavalit, he said, regretted about the October 7 clashes.

He quoted Gen Chavalit as saying about chronology of the events starting from October 6, when a special cabinet's meeting was held. Gen Chavalit proposed at the meeting that a peaceful approach should be adopted.

Gen Chavalit also proposed to change place for Government to declare its policy statement from the Parliament to either the Royal Thai Armed Forces' auditorium or the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Ministers expressed both agreement and disagreement with the idea.

House Speaker Chai Chidchob insisted that the Parliament would be used as earlier planned.

As a result, Gen Chavalit went to the Metropolitan Police Bureau to give policy to the police that they adopted peaceful means to resolve protesting problems. If not, the police must stop to resolve the protesting problems.

Gen Chavalit also agreed with Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat’s decision to set up a committee to examine causes of dispersing protesters, adding the former deputy premier was not worried about the move and was prepared to provide all details relating to the incidents.

In addition, Gen Chavalit did not believe that some factions in the Government doubled cross him regarding police's dispersal of PAD.

Regarding a call from Army Commander in Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda that Gen Chavalit clarify all details of the dispersal, Chavalit quoted Gen Chavalit as saying that the former deputy premier understand well on Gen Anupong, believing that the Army chief didn't mean to be sarcastic against him.

Earlier, Gen Chavalit suggested Gen Anupong to stage a coup to resolve prevailing political deadlock, while the Army chief retorted that should clarify police's dispersal against PAD's protesters.

Somchai said earlier that Preecha Panitchwong, a former Supreme Administrative Court judge, would head a committee probing causes dispersing PAD's protesters. While head of the second committee healing damaged parties from the incident was expected to make public next week.
