Odd Situation For A Friend Of Mine

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has approached me with a question about how he and his family can stay i Thailand for six month a year. He is 37 years old, Swedish like his wife and their two minor children, has a house on a leased plot of land in Phuket and has just sold his business in Sweden.

The family wants to come to Thailand and stay here for six months yearly but the tricky thing is that my friend needs to travel back to Sweden every six weeks for a few days. The wife and the children could get by with a double entry tourist visa and make a visa run after the first 60+30 days. The Thai embassy is Stockholm is actually quite generous with tourist visas for Swedes and they would most likely approve a six months visa for them, which means that they in fact could use both entry periods in full.

But what about my friend? Arriving on 30 days visa exempt would be no option since he wants to stay more than 90 days over the six months period. Any recomendations please?

Thanks in advance!

It it would depend on how long he is going to be gone.

He might be able to do it by obtaining a re-entry permit at immigration.

That would allow him to go out and come back without using the other entry. Just as long as he has enough time left on his entry or extension. IE: If he was to enter and only stay 15 days and left for 15 days he would still have 30 days left on his permit to stay when he came back.

Also if he was to get a 3 entry visa it would give him a little more flexibility.
