Does anyone here know what Korean expats are paying for private tutors in Bangkok?

I have solid credentials and experience with that market and would like to know what's possible in Thailand (if top teachers can charge the same as they would in Seoul or how much discount is expected).

I understand from this forum that normal rates for tutoring English in Bangkok float between 500 and 1500/hr. Any info on whether Koreans are also paying these rates or closer to what the price is in Korea?

A friend used to do this and was easily pulling over 1000 an hour. The kids just wanted them entertained and to learn a bit of english. I don't have any contacts for you though...

There seems to have been a massive inflow of Koreans into Chiang Mai over the last couple of years. There seems to be a number of reasons for this: International School education, Korean manufacturing plants in the Northern Industrial Estate in Lamphun, missionaries and more recently nurses! The nurses are coming to study IELTS and take the test here as it is a lot cheaper than back in Korea. They need 7s in order to work in the States. The missionaries are just scary with their unquestioning belief and total ignorance of Thai culture.

I know one guy in Chiang Mai who spends his day blowing a whistle and jumping in and out of a swimming pool at an International School who earns 60K per month. The school calls him a sports teacher. He used to teach TEFL.

Teaching privates you'll probably earn the same as teaching Thais 250-350 baht per hour.

If anyone has further information on this topic involving Kowli living in Bangkok that would be appreciated. I'm talking about teaching SAT, AP-prep, College Applications for US, etc.

At least one of my students from summers in Seoul was studying during the year at ISB, so I'm trying to find out if there are more and what that small group of students will pay. (For reference, if anyone knows what Elite Educational charges the students for its crash program at ISB, that might also be helpful.)

Sorry, I chickened out and did not ask him. He does have a very full schedule, anyway, and he is fully certified in his home country. I know two other, less qualified Korean-student tutors who are unemployed. The won-baht exchange ratio is really killing them. The won has fallen from 26 to 40 for one baht.

Three years ago in Chiang Mai I got 500/hour from a Korean family. After they left I went down to 400 with another family. In Bangkok I get 700/hour.

I don't think anyone's reading this topic anymore...the reason I was asking about this is because the rates in Seoul are _substantially_ higher than in Bangkok. My hagwon paid more than 30k/hr, the private rates for top teachers can go over 100k.

Of course, with the value of the won shot, it doesn't much matter anymore, does it. Still, if there's any new info here, would appreciate.

The loss of the value of the won against the baht is incredible, something like 50 percent as Nov. 25, 2008. That is when students go home to Seoul. That is when they stop coming to Thailand, and those who are here stop paying tuition.
