:D Come on matey, with all the money you yanks have got and the exchange rate is high you really don't have to ask these trivia questions. In most countries money does all the talking :o . have a goog stay in the Kingdom of Thailand or if you prefer LoS. :D

If you are age 50 or over it should not be a problem and any Royal Thai Consulate can get you started. You will have to have yearly visa extensions to remain here but that can be done inside Thailand.

Huahin,Im sure this type of question is not at all trivial to someone who has no prior knowledge of Thai immigration law.

And as to the money all us "yanks" have,in many cases its all a mirage

because so many people here are in debt up to their eyeballs in order to display the image of wealth.

No matter what the financial situation one is in ,running afoul of the law in a foreign land is about the last thing one would want to have happen!

To prz: Im in much the same situation as urself. Take your time and carefully analyze the alternatives (Extending "O" visa in LOS vs getting"OA" in U.S.,for instance) and then apply them to your own unique situation. Then go with what you feel will work best for YOU! All the best the Harpman.

No-one said it was trivial.

Here are a few of the links that come up if you do a search in this section using

the words "retirement visa"

They should answer all your questions.

If you still have doubts then please post again.

Astral,Then I wonder what huahin meant by "trivia questions"??

prz,I also will be living in C.Mai.

My US govt.pension begins Feb 1. The links Astral listed should have the info you need to get started. I would pay particular attention to Pro Thai Expat's "canned" response to the Retirement Visa issue. Its a very thorough summary of the requirements and he also adds some wise tips as how to present yourself to the officers at Immigration.

Are you by any chance applying at Portland OR?? Ive read on a recent thread that they will issue OAs there with less hassle than some of the others. Would like to know how you make out..All the best, the Harpman.
