Hi all,

Can anyone give any advise on renting a car in thailand?

I thought about renting a car to drive up to Korat with the girlfriend to see parents this time

instead of catching a bus again.

Is the international drivers liscense adequate that i

would get from the RACQ here in aust

and my open drivers liscence enough to rent a car there?

Any info and/or comments on the car rental agencies, insurance, costs, pitfalls

would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Yes the international drivers liscense from RACQ is what you need to drive legally. The bigger car rental places will probably want your credit card number to charge you if something goes wrong, others will want a cash deposit.

I used this site for rentals 6 times, always with Oz national driving licence. In fact, for over 20 rentals, nobody has ever asked me for any other licence, including police when they stopped me.

It's pinned at the top of travel section, ThaiVisa car rentals

IDL - all it is is a certificate in English of your national driving license, which is already in English.

Japanese, Koreans, Russians...would need it.
