About Work Permit

Featured Replies

Hi,

question to those of you who have gotten a WP. If I come to Thailand with a Non-Immigrant Visa O based on marriage and apply for a WP in Thailand, how long does it take for officials to process it (in real life)?

Thanks.

Depends on the company you work for. For a school, it can all be done in a matter of days. If you work for a very big company and can use the one-stop serevice center it can also be done in very short time, depending on how soon the company has the papers in order. For a normal company it takes much longer to complete the process.

Note that you can only apply for a WP if you have an employer. A WP only allows you to work for the in the WP mentioned employer, on the mentioned location in the mentioned function. It is not the case that a WP allows you to work where ever you want.

Should I apply for a WP at the same as a Non-Immigrant Visa from the Thai embassy in my home country? Or is it wise to wait until arrived in Thailand? I just think maybe I won´t get them in time in my home country and it ruins the whole WP thing as without a Visa I get nothing.

A work permit can only be issued in Thailand.

You employer can start preparing all the documents required before your arrival.

You won't need the work permit to get a non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai.

Your marriage certificate and a copy of her ID card or passport photo page should be all that is needed.

I would suggest that you apply for a multiple entry visa. Just in case you have problems proving income for 3 months prior to your application for a 1 year extension.

Thanks for a prompt reply. One more question, can I stay outside of Thailand as much as I need and go in and out as often as I like with a multiple entry Visa? Nice that you pointed out the income statement issue. Never heard before it is not needed if one has a multiple entry Visa.

For a multiple entry non-o visa proof of income is not required. All though some nearby consulates ask to see a bank book for a multiple entry. But it is not the norm.

For a 1 year extension it is required.

You can go and come as many times as you wish on a multiple entry visa for about 15 months as long as you do the last entry just before the visa expires.

If you tell us where you live we might even be able tell you which consulate is the best to apply for your visa at.
