I have read through this informative recent post, which answers some questions. But wanted to clarify a few things as this will be my first re-entry while on extention of stay.

Sorry I'm a bit wordy today - questions in bold font.

My situation. The extended permission to stay in my passport, based on a now expired visa type B and active WP4 extended to April 2009 in line with date stamped in my WP4.

Extension of expired visa (Non-Imm :o on 90 day reporting, next report due date Feb 2009. I will expect to be back in Thailand before that date as so to be able to report for the next 90 day extention. But if I remain outside of Thailand and miss that next scheduled 90 day report date, I understand that the 90 day clock starts again from when I do arrive back in Thailand. As long as I return before the expiry of the extended permission to stay (April 2009) the 90 day clock just starts again from when I re-enter the country.

( I believe that the 90 report dates will get re-synced with the extention of 'stay and visa', during my April 2009 extension process. )

The TM8 form asks for the expected return date, "...return to Thailand about..." I assume that as long as I am within my "..previous visa permitted to stay.." date (April 2009) that the re-entry pemit will be accepted?

So that seems quite straight forward. I am only seeking a single re-entry.

I have read the various threads about obtaining the TM8 at BKK airport. I have a couple of questions on this point not addressed, that I can see elsewhere.

I am aware of the process, pictures and boarding card. (I think I understand correctly that you do not need a boarding pass to get the TM8 processed - just need the boarding pass to get to the office where the TM8 is processed at BKK airport.) As I will be travelling Thai Air first class I do not recall any such 'special' immigration facility within the short walk from the check-in lounge down to the waiting lounge. If I recall last time I departed Thailand this way, the departure card and passport where just 'sorted out' and returned to me. I have read this post from a similar traveller.

I would assume that once the boarding card is generated I could be accompanied through to the immigration office and brought back through the no exit route, any other experiances apart from the one mentioned in the above thread? (Travelling FC - don't like to queue.)

I have read about, and consider it a better idea to obtain the approved TM8 at my local (Jomtien) Immigration office before travelling to the airport, might need my hands free for riot shields.

I have read the threads refering to this type of 'online' application, I would guess that if the form is 'submitted' and accepted by immigration - it is just held there waiting for you to turn up with picture, passport & money?

I concur with other comments about the poor layout Thai/English of the form, they use Word at a basic level and should use Excel IMHO. But taking the preprinted form in my hand seems easier.

I have seen the TM13 form which is similar - this is for a different situation ?

When applying for a re-entry permit you will need to submit the following -

A completed TM-8 form

The correct fee

A 2" photo

Photocopy of passport (main page and latest entry stamp)

Current fees for re-entry permit:

1,000 Bahts for single

Mentioned (but not quoted from) in this thread.
Please remember when arriving back into Thailand to note the re-entry permit number on the Immigration arrival card (TM-card), and check that you are stamped in correctly.
I very good reminder. I will be making a note to myself in my passport. Should I expect a 90 day permitted to stay stamp from the date of en-entry when I show the approved TM8 when returning to Thailand?

While looking at my Gf's old passport recently I noticed an immigration officers mistake on one of her trips returning to Thailand, the date of arrival was wrong by one year ! So important to check the dates.

Thank you for any thoughts/experiances.

90 day reports are nothing to do with extension renewal dates. It will not be in sinc. when you apply for your next extension.

If you return before you next report date in February you do not have to report on that date. Your next 90 day report will be 89 days after you return. Whenever that is. By leaving the country the date in February becomes void.

Personally I would apply at your local office as I do not like leaving things to the last minute.

When you return your passport will be stamped until April 2009.

You can put any date for the return date as long it is not after your permit to stay.

The online application is only for Bangkok immigration. You have to pick it up there.

The best option for you is to go to Jomtien for your re-entry permit.

The TM13 is for those on a PR.

Your permit to stay will be the same as the one you have now.

Mostly to aid those finding this thread at some future date, seeking to understand closing the loop on many of the questions like this that are posted, then answered with no follow through.

I have been delayed in getting the re-entry permit (TM8) due to family issues that cropped up suddenly, so I was up early at the Immigration office to get it done. (Pattaya Immigration Office in Jomtien, as the opening hours don't seem to be well recorded, Monday - Friday 08:30 - 16:30. )

-Used the Thai Visa copy of TM8 filled in on my computer and printed. *

-Photocopies of Passport main Page, Last Entry Stamp, Visa Stamp, TM6 Card. Each signed.

-4x6cm color photograph.

-1,000 Baht

* This is protected Word document - so text entry into some fields is of limited length meaning that full/complete answrs are not possible in every case, you have to abbrv or write in free hand. Also forced small fonts make it difficult to read - for an A4 sized form with a few questions there is a lot of blank spaces.

Arrived as the office opened - officer looked at the papers, told me "...the computer in Bangkok was 'down', come back tomorrow." Best laid plans...

Tried again later that day. Computer was working.

Accepted the documents mentioned above without question or comment.

Asked to wait...

The Immigraion officer applied a half page sized stamp in my passport (taking up 3/4 of the space on an otherwise empty page), the stamp has date and location of issue and shows a valid until date that matches my Non-Imm-B visa's extension of stay date.

Passport is checked and computer data entry happens, the passport and documents are checked by another officer and then returned to you (name called out). Entire process was about 5 minutes total.

Making a note now to write the re-entry permit number on the remaining half of TM6 and the new TM6 when I get that.
