Do you think that I would have trouble bringing one in to thailand? A gift for my friend. I recall someone mentioning on another post that if Thai customs asks about it to say that it is for making Som Tam. Thought that was funny.

I wouldn't worry about it. Thai Customs doesn't usually inspect incoming stuff at the airport. In the dozens of times I've been through, they've never so muched as unzipped anything. One time at the airport in Panama City a woman officer did inspect my bag and found an "enhancement" and asked what it was; I simply said it was for a medical condition. She was satisfied with that.
