I bought the cheapest one I could find on Lazada. It doesn't have all the electronic bells and whistles, but who cares. It is a slow cooker. Set the temp and walk away. -

I have an existing, decent Thai private med insurance policy that I've paid for and kept ever since I moved to Thailand, but once that is getting increasingly more expensive as I get into my mid 60s and beyond... Never really had to use it for anything big yet, fingers crossed. But now I'm looking at probably keeping the Thai policy for the time I'm continuing to live in Thailand, but also getting and paying for Medicare (some combination of A, B and beyond), just to cover in case I move back any time in the future or need to go back for some kind of treatment I want or can only get in the U.S. Then layer on top of that, the issues related to the Thai government's plans to start taxing worldwide income of anyone living here for more than half the year, and that at least creates some planning scenarios where I might decide to be out of Thailand for some periods of time... Who knows how all that's going to turn out. -

Over the years
I was specifically told that my more than adequate, easily proven (xfers to my Thai bank + foreign-bank records) foreign income would not be allowed for my marriage-based extension, because it was not a pension. They required proof of the income-source, to verify (which I was too young to have). This was several years ago, but I haven't heard that they changed this. If working in Thailand w/ work-permit, you can use non-pension money, but the process is harrowing - requiring all Non-O-marriage paperwork PLUS Non-B paperwork (a pile of company-records). -

Yep I flew on Singapore outbound from Heathrowin January. Self check only in it wasnt optional as you say....They had a floor walker to assist if anyone wasn't sure but that was all. One thing I'm confused about...if anyone knows the answer.... --for the initial open enrollment period just before and after a person turns 65, and you sign up for Medicare Parts A and B then... Do you also HAVE TO sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan during that same open enrollment period? Or, you can add on a Medicare Advantage sometime time later without any penalties? Anytime, or only during the annual open enrollment period at the start of the calendar year? TIA! -

5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
I was successful with a DTV application last week and want to thank the various posters here and elsewhere for sharing their experiences with the application process, it was helpful for me. I applied to the consulate in Chicago. They processed it relatively quickly, with a request for additional documentation coming just 1.5 days after the initial submission, and the approval coming about 4 business days later (across the labor day holiday weekend). I applied in the digital nomad category. I am a founder / director of a company in the US and have an employment contract with a nominal salary, < $10k. Most of my income comes from other sources. In the initial application I sent only the employment contract, along with bank statements from January and July that show continuously held balances above the threshold. They did not question the income, but did ask for a statement from the company that I am allowed to work remotely. So I sent them a self-signed PDF asserting my authority as busines owner / director to work remotely, along with the company's articles of incorporation showing that I incorporated the business. Just as we heard previously from the report of a London embassy application, this approach seems to be accepted in Chicago as well and the visa was issued without further questions. I was very happy to see the approval. As someone under the age of 50, the visa options were not very good before the DTV came along. Best of luck to those of you who are applying. -
