I'm a 22 year old Canadian living in Southern Thailand with my sister. We came here because we both really wanted to teach English in Thailand.

I completed my 1 month TEFL course in Phuket 2 months ago and I have various university courses and a diploma, but no degree. When I came here, I was told that a degree was not necessary to work as an English Teacher, and that the TEFL with some college should be more than enough.

Because of the law change, I am having a very hard time figuring out how I can stay here. My boss has been calling everyone he knows and he keeps getting the same answer "She can't teach without a degree"

He has already applied for my work permit, and without the degree, the process had to stop and was terminated.

My 3 month (education) ED Visa expires in about 2 weeks. And I was going to just get a re-entry stamp for 3 more months and then that would give me 3 months to work on what I had to do in order to work here, but I was told that its very hard to go from an ED to a tourist visa and that I will not be able to get a re-entry stamp.

My time is running out, and my younger sister has just signed a contract for 11 months at her school. About a month ago we started renting a house close to both of our schools, and i'd hate to take my sister away from this job and our new home just because I dont have a degree.

What should I do?? :o

What do you mean by a re-entry stamp?

Are you using a multiple entry visa. If it is still valid you can keep using it because it is not tied to you attending classes.

If you want to get a tourist visa you can get one. There are no rules that say you cannot get any visa after having an ED visa.

You will not get any entry for 3 months wihout a non immigrant visa of some kind. A tourist visa would give you 60 days.

You would only get 15 days by land and 30 by air without a visa.

Go to a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country and get a Tourist Visa.

Suggest you visit the Teaching Forum and get some info. on teaching requirements.

I dont know if its still valid or not. The stamp on my passport says until december but I dont know if thats for to do an extension (because its still valid?) or if that means that the education visa is actually expiring.

Have you been leaving the country every 90 days or did you apply for an extension for 1 year or every 90 days. Look at your visa stamp/sticker that was put in there by the consulate. Was it a multiple entry visa with an expiration date one year after issue.
