Most of the paracetamol here is sold in blister packs

Which is still true and the bottle you showed here was not purchased in Thailand. And it is not paracetamol, it is aspirin. (And they are about to expire.)

That's Mr. Sherlock to you.... :)

And I did say: "Or was this some big bottle full of them?"

In England and Wales on average approximately 130 deaths per year can be directly attributed to paracetamol alone. In the vast majority of these cases the overdose is deliberate, and these deaths are returned as certain or probable suicides. In a small number of cases the overdose was intentional but the individual's expectation was not to cause death. Such deaths may be recorded as accidental.

30 pills of 500mg can cause liver damage which can lead to death.

I was interested in the sentence: "In a small number of cases the overdose was intentional but the individual's expectation was not to cause death."

How does that work?

"Jesus! My head is killing me! Fck it! I'll take the whole bottle!"

Paracetamol is made from coal tar.

36,000 baht for oxygen is outrageous. Is there no medical costs and treatment oversight?

BigC:

why do we drive our birds into over doses ???

Sounds like you need to increase the dosage of baht. Increase dosages of baht tend to decrease the incidence of quarreling, sullenness, the "silent treatment," and other apparently infantile behaviors. However, like some other drugs, a resistance to baht can form, whereby you will need to steadily increase the dosage over time as the symptoms reappear.

Yet you yourself say in your own previous post that paracetamol are aspirin. Maybe it's just me but I took your reply to my little story to mean that you thought I wasn't telling the truth. If that wasn't your intent, I'm sorry. If that was your intent, then you can apologise.

Anyway, why did she do it? There was a big disagreement and the gf was asked to move out. Needless to say, her tactic worked because she's still there a year later.

Just to make clear how this is relevant to the topic - Bangkok Samui Hospital apparently isn't the only hospital around charging a lot to keep someone over night.

One poster here has stated that he no longer bothers with Insurance unbelievable,

So when you are in a coma from a head injury after a drunk drives into you or...........!

Another thing that amazes me is that those complaining all choose to go to these Private hospitals. They know the alternatives are not as good but then complain about price.

Private hospitals are business based plain and simple,You want fair cheap pricing etc etc then go to the government hospitals, for most ailments they are fine. But when the shi# really hits the fan you wont care what the cost and you will want the best that's available.

I had a life threatening accident in Thailand meaning that I had to be resuscitated then evacuated followed with 4 days in ICU and 6 mths of further visits and checks. I couldn't tell you what the bill was as I didn't care I received good health care and reasonably good aftercare.Insurance picked up the whole bill thats what its there for.

Without the insurance I would be dead plain and simple.

in my other life i was an insurance agent for a period of time ,long enough to understand that the insuranc e companies do not like to pay and they will do what ever they can to avoid paying where possible why because they believe that the client should share the risk hence even with insurance we are self insured. i avoid hospitals as mcuh as possible but if i do go i go to thevery best available, my insurance policy requires that i pay up front and get reimbursed by the insurance company thus far i have always gotten paid back. on the subject of over testing by hospitals i think you will find that compared to bumengrad BSH test less why? because thw drs at B are all US board certified and understand the lreality of being sued for malpractice hence they will do all possible test to reduce the possibility of being charged with neglect.

No, what I said was: "Who keeps so many aspirins (which is basically what these are, like ibuprofen) in the house?"

I was careful when I wrote that. Paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen are all basically the same -- headache/minor pain medicines.

As for telling the truth, you got me wrong there; I absolutely believe you. I am just wondering what sort of dummkopf would take a bottle of paracetamol. You must have the patience of Job. A stunt like that would have made it clearer than ever that she needed to be shown the exit.

So, Stiggy, I assume that your life-threatening incident prevented you from designating where you were taken, so where would you elect to go if you had a choice in Samui for treatment of a serious condition or injury?

you make it sound like he has an arsenal of weapons in the house. that is like saying who keep so much bleach in their house. or who keeps too much water in the house. if someone want to do them selves in they could use anything rope water knives apirins i could go on.

do u study the art of arguing for the sake of arguing.

For Samui:

Bangkok Samui Hospital for anything that is a serious head injury or Cardiac related as they offer Helicopter to Bangkok once stable and needed.

Some of the Pediatricians in BSH are the best in Asia.

Endocrinologist Thai International Hospital.

Immediate serious trauma assistance Thai international or BSH .

Diving accident TIH

Dentist Chumporn private clinic.

ENT Surathanni clinic.

In Bangkok the choice widens but all the best are still private and costly ,many here would still accuse them of over charging or subscribing meds.

My accident did leave me unable to make decisions at the time, however previous employment had my wife and I working with all these hospitals and many more in Phuket Bangkok and the surrounding region. It astounds me that expats do not have relevant coverage out here (although Insurance co are far from perfect)

Simply put the private health care in Thailand is Business and legally minded, but also by far the best in The region.

May I ask from where do you draw that information and that conclusion and when you say region , pls do define ?

I say this as I potentially disagree but would need to confirm the above first on what "region" you refer to exactly..

Helicopter to BKK?; Pending on what your insurance covers I would imagine, would a plane not be a lot faster and convenient?

Some of the Pediatricians in BSH are the best in Asia.

Besides Dr. Donya, how many other pediatricians are there in BSH?

Endocrinologist Thai International Hospital.

Immediate serious trauma assistance Thai international or BSH .

Some would argue BSH, since they have a mono chamber.

Dentist Chumporn private clinic.

ENT Surathanni clinic.

Is there a reason you don't mention SIH (Samui Intenrational Hopsital)? Stiggy, what's your take on Bandon Hospital?

Posted

The plane from samui cannot take a serious case with full life support etc the BSH helicopter will. The chopper has/can also evac direct from other islands. This is a relatively new service.

Your Right Dr Donya is the one I refer to her support from Bkk on rotation are also good.

SIH dated no real bangkok support good dentist although practice looks and feels grimey.

Bandon I hear that they are improving and seem quite good at cosmetic procedures.

As for the Monoplace v Multiplace DAN have SSS as preferred facility this year ,the rest of the argument its simple you cannot beat a Multiplace in a hospital environment however this dose not exist on Samui.

I know where i would rather be assuming insurance covers it.

Hi Stiggy,

Good news on the helicopter, that's new to me. A couple of months ago (January) my dad got evac'ed to BKK by a BKK Airways plane, after normal flights finished for the day. No life support indeed.

SIH is indeed getting a bit outdated, all 'old' staff more or less left for BSH and TIH.

Still not convinced in a long shot about Bandon, stuff I personally witnessed there have them on my personal black list. Do you know if they are 'blacklisted' by Western insurance companies, have heard that rumor a few times. Besides running a business, which I think is fair enough and what I expect from privat hopsital, there's also some blatant ripping off going, Bandon used to take the strudel, especially before BSH arrived on the scene. Now they're just completely outflanked and 'outgunned' by superior equipment and know how.

My Girlfriend gave birth to our little boy 2 weeks ago in Bangkok Samui Hospital.

Firstly I would like to say that the care has been absolutely first class. I did do my research on prices beforehand and I know that Nathon is the cheapest option by far. That said, Bangkok samui is actually 10,000 Bht less than Thai International for C section delivery and 4 night stay.

I know that paying for private healthcare will always be more expensive than going local but I can honestly say that I have found Bangkok Samui excellent, prior to and during the birth as well as the post birth care we have received thus far.

Congrats with the birth of your boy Sam.

Just note that if there would have been any complication, they would have transferred your wife over to Nathon hospital within a whisk. That's the impression I get after reading all posts related to giving birth on Samui.

i admit if my bird was to give birth i would book her into bbk hospital. i have seen the que for the clinic for the govment one in nathong. there staff must be over loaded plus a friend of mine had a very bad experience over there.

the trick with the private hospital is to get diaignosed at another hospial first then when you know what u want just force them to give you the treatment you need and get a price first.

like taking a car to a mechanic and asking them to fix it without know whats wrong with it.

they willl make up any bull stuff and get as much money as they can out of you.

same with the hospitals.

personally though for the money i would prefer if those sexy nurses added spung baths and body massages but that is becuase i am very dirty. i need to be cleaned

It is surely important that people share their problems concerning Bangkok Samui Hospital with each other. But has anyone complained to BSH director or manager (yet better in writing)? They have a form available on their website (Contacts->Talk to Director). An official written complaint should always be investigated and answered. If it is not, you should address your problem to the hospital head office.

I have sent a link to this discussion to the person responsible for international marketing in BSH. Let's see what he will say.

The international marketing guy from BSH replied within less than 1 hour:

"Thanks a lot for your e-mail and giving this information to me.

I know about that comments, it is something we have to discuss with the management team."

I was in Bandon for three nights last year following an accident. Had no choice at the time. Medical care was first class. Food crap but the Irish Times sent their girls over with a menu. Rooms dated but I was not there on vacation. Bill seemed reasonable and agreed by AIA before I was discharged.
