After have clear all documents I have to bring to KL, Penang or Vientiane embassy, I have another question:

Which documents I have to bring exactly at BKK Immigration office for ask Non-O Marriage Visa extension?

The main point is: Embassy certificate about my income (in my country) of 75,000 Euros per year is ok and enough? No need to have Bank account with 400,000b in Thai for 60 days, right?

Hope to finish this "odyssey" soon

Merry Xmas and happy new year! :o

You need a letter from your Embassy showing 40,000 Baht monthly income.

OR

400,000 in the bank.

GREAT! Your post is like a light in the dark :o

THANK YOU!

(I am more confident my odyssey is near the end :D)

I thought the B400K in the bank was done away witha few years ago and only B40K income (or joint income) was accepted now. That is if we're talking about an ordinary marriage extension and NOT a retirement one?

New rules since 3 weeks ago. And it has to be the Husbands money/income not joint.

I never heard that!!

I have been on a Non O (multi entry) for a few years now and therefore have been doing border runs every 90 days.

Can you really say that I can apply for an extension based on marriage even though I am not working but I have over 1m in the bank in MY name?

Yes you can get an extension based upon marriage see 2.18 of police order.

Actually, the new police order has been big news on the forum.

Most of the talk has been about the change to only getting 15 days when arriving overland without a visa.

This is good news for me!!

My money has been in a Thai bank for many years now, but does anyone know if the B400K has to be in a savings account, or can it be in a fixed deposit or time account with higher interest (which I have)?

There have been posts that it can be in a fixed deposit account for retirement visa's at some immigration offices.

You will still need the letter from the bank and the account book. They might ask to see an account that shows some deposit and withdrawl acitivity as well. Best to check with you local immigraion office.

400,000 in the bank.

When I went to get my income letter from Barry Kenyon at the British Consulate in Pattaya a couple last week he told me that, in Pattaya at least, you will also need to show that any income from abroad is brought into Thailand (eg; bank statements, ATM receipts, etc), the letter on it's own is not enough.

Some immigration offices require that you show that you have actual money to live on in Thailand and want to see some money in a Thai bank for that purpose. Never heard that it should be the whole 40,000 baht a month.

Personally I would not take too much notice of Barry Kenyon.

There is no regulation that the cash in the bank has to come from abroad. Or that the actual income has to be seen comming in. You just need proof of income.

Thanks, Joe. I thought this would have been huge news owing to the many posters who cannot stay here without either a wp or retirement visa!

It was for the new extension rules the topic is 15 pages long. It dropped to the 2nd page today.

The rule change for the 15 by land 30 by air is at 30 pages now.

Lite Beer You are probably correct but I would not discount what Barry Kenyon says (i don't know BK from a bar of soap).

If we are talking cash in the bank previously A bank would only credit you with a letter or statement about 400000 in an account if the deposits had a code showing it had been remitted from overseas.(I know people borrowed money to pop into accounts and got away with it TiT but thats not the type of advice this poster is after we hope).

It makes sense to show proof that the monthly 40000 is coming into Thailand from abroad especially now that it is not joint income.(not joint income has more meaning than it reads) I would think it eliminates bar owner money for example (farang can't earn from a bar unless WP is held) Lets not sell these people (Khon Thai) short.

Your embassy should only issue a letter confirming that you have 40000 income if they know it is coming from outside Thailand or from a legal source in Thailand (property rental) otherwise If i was the Thai Immigration I would be asking the questions:

Do you work in Thailand for this money (WP?)?

Do you obtain this money thru what means here in Thailand?

Maybe if you own property (condo) here in Thailand that is acceptable (rental income I don't know).

This is not being paranoid just looking to stay here legally and not raise any eyebrows. :o

You are right to be concerned and to do every thing you think will help your application. But there is no reqirement to actually show the income coming in. Who knows, maybe Pattaya does want that but it is not in the regulations.

I think the confusion here is what was and what is. Rules have changed. Know the current rules and the requirements. When I submitted my application, I always gave the officer only the required supporting documentations and never more. When I go to renew my visa, I always bring my fat ugly disfigured Thai wife with me as to get a sympathy from the officers. Just one look at her and I know they say to themselves how can a handsome farang be married to such an awful creature. It is obviously love. :o

Proof of 40,000 Baht monthly income OR 400,000 in a Thai bank. If income from abroad you need a letter from your Embassy. In Thailand you need tax payment reciepts. For the money in the bank you need a letter from your bank and an up to date bank book showing the same balance. The money has to be in the bank 60 days before you apply

Wife's ID Card and house registration. Marriage Certificate. Photos of you and yout Wife in and around your house. Map to your house. Take the Wife to be interviewed. Your passport with copies of the relevant pages. 1,900 Baht Fee.

Application Form.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp. You go back in a month and get the remainer of the extension.

My question is, does my Thai wife have to accompany me when I extend my retirement visa?

Here's my situation. I have had a retirement visa for two years, renewed annually in Bangkok. I comes up for renewal again in 2 weeks. To meet the financial requirement, I have had 800,000 baht in a Thai bank savings account for the last 3 + years. I married a Thai national 4 months ago. I understand that now I could qualify for an extension of my visa with 400,000 on deposit. If my understanding is incorrect, please tell me.

My marriage was properly registered, my wife changed her family name to mine on her Thai ID card (bat prachachon), and we recorded her in the house registration book for my house (I own the house and the house registration book lists me as head of household (jao ban). If I take an original marriage certificate, the 2 house registration books house (foreigners have a yellow book, Thais' are blue), a confirmed copy of my wife's ID card and all the other required documents to the Suan Plu immigration office, will I be able to extend my retirement visa if my wife doesn't attend with me? There isn't any funny business going on, it is just a matter of convenience.

By the way, how do you get information by phone from the Suan Plu office? No one answers the phone at the call center no. 1178, though I have probably called 50 times today. I can get through on other numbers, but they only refer me to the call center. I can speak Thai quite well, so communication isn't an issue; they just don't want to answer any questions, I think because they view that as the job of the call center. Any helpful suggestions?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

For the Retirement Extension (not a Visa) 800,000 Baht she does not have to go with you.

For the Marriage Extension 400,000 Baht which is what you are asking about. She has to go and be interviewd and sign a statement.

For the Retirement Extension with 800,000 In the bank you do not need any of the documents you mentioned to do with your marriage . It is nothing to do with your Wife.

Thank you. I guess I'll use some of that 800,000 baht for the holidays and have my wife make the trip with me for the extension next month.

Don't forget the photos of you and your Wife in and around your house and the map to your house.

Find it on Google Earth/Maps and print it out.
