ranzask Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Hi all, My non-immigrant 'ed' visa (student visa) wil expire on 31th December. I already have a company that are prepering the documents for the Non-B visa. Since it is new year the letter may be delayed to next year and I will go out to nearby country (Laos or Cambodia), stay there alone on new year for a week!! Instead of staying in Thailand with my friends and girlfriend. These are my questions: 1. can the company scan the letter and send me by email so that I can print it (or maybe fax it) and do the visa in that country? 2. which county is better to do the non-B visa? Laos or Vietnam? I don't have so much money to spend 3. Can I just be late in few days with my visa and pay the 200baht/day fine? will the embassy not like that fact and maybe not give me the non-B visa? 4. How about I will go out today and come back for one day.. that will give me 15 or 30 days, then I stay here happy in new year and when the company gets the letter from the government, I will do another run for business visa? advantages are clear. any disadvantages? Thnks in advance. R.Z.
ubonjoe Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 #4 sounds like the best option. Border run will give you 15 days. 30 by air. You can exit and re-enter on the same day. You might want to wait until just before the 31st so you you have more time to get the letter. #3 is wrong overstay is 500 baht per day. Vientiane Laos is a good choice.

You will only get a 3 months Non Immigrant B Visa there if you apply for one. In your case i would first apply for a tourist visa which will give you a 3 months time frame to do the paperwork for your B Visa. 3. You could be late and pay 500 Baht a day but i would not recommend it because you will have a bad record at the immigration. 4. If you go out today and you fly somewhere you will get 30 days. If you go across a land boarder you will get 15 days. Hope this helps you Good luck
ranzask Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Hi, Thanks for the replies. It helps. About the 15/30 days ... what if I go to Laos by bus but come back to thailand by flight? Will I get 30 or 15 ? Laos and Cambodia are just the same, or some place is considered easier? Oh, another important question: what is it exactly that my company are waiting for ? they said they submited somethin to the government and they wait now for 4-5 days. so what is it? is that the letter they need to give me or another thing? also, the company didn't ask me where I am going to extend my visa.. so do they forgot to ask me? or I can take the letter to every embassy? Thnks again, R.Z.
ubonjoe Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Yes if you fly back from Laos you will get 30 days. If you are going to travel overland to get a flight back Laos would be much easier. It is a long trip to anywhere in Cambodia to get a flight back. If you are going to spend the money to get to Laos. I suggest you get a tourist visa while there that would give you a 60 day stay on entry. The company probably has applied for your work permit and with the receipt for the application you will be able to get your non immigrant B visa at a Thai consulate. Any nearby consulate will give you a single entry B visa with the correct paperwork. If your employer has already applied for your work permit. I suggest you go to immigration and try to get a 7 day extension (1900 baht) that might save you an unneeded trip out of the country.
ranzask Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Do I need this reciet from the government to do non-B visa? I don't know why the comapny don't just give me the letter and all the docuemnts now.. any idea? R.Z.
Mario2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 The receipt shows that you already have apllied for the work permit and you will get one, once you have a visa/permission to stay.

That is why the company has not given you the other documents yet. Even if you had everything needed today you probably won't be able to get your visa until the 5th of January. Next week just about all the consulates will be closed from the 31st until the 4th. That is why I suggested you go to immigration and get a 7 day extension.
Mario2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Note that an extension for 7 days is not routinely given, as is the case with an extension of tourist visas. Immigration might ask you for proof that you will indeed leave the country within those 7 days. A letter from your employer explaining the situation might do the trick, but make plans for if immigration denies an extension (just to be on the safe side).
ubonjoe Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Agree mario it is a maybe on the extension. But with an explanation about the holidays and etc. I think they will do it. There is still plenty of time to do it today. If no extension then a border run is best.
