I currently work for a large IT company based in the USA. I am a software engineer and the main focus of my job is monitoring several platforms and interacting with clients. An opportunity has arisen in my company for several people to "work remotely." Since I have always had the desire to live in Thailand I am very seriously considering this position.

The pros of this position are: a lot less work (only 20-25 hours a week monitoring the platforms, no client interaction), work from home, no set schedule, the ability to return to my current position in the USA after one year.

The cons are: a big reduction in pay.

I have a wife and a 12 month old baby girl and live a middle class life here in the States. We are very much into our family and do not party or drink. We prefer to spend all available time with our new addition and are very interested in this opportunity because it allows me to be home and not always at the office. My salary would be in the 140,000 baht/month range. Would really like to get some feedback on locals living in the Krabi area about the quality of life to be had on this salary. I find a lot of info about COL for the other cities in Thialand but not a whole lot concerning Krabi. Any feedback would be really helpful....Thanks in advance!!!

With 140k per month you will do fine be it Krabi or Bangkok. I'm not staying in Krabi but generally you could look costs in Phuket and lower a bit for Krabi.

For reference locals doing 140k per month are driving BMW's or Merc's and stay in nice houses etc.

Only problem i see is to arrange proper visas and work permits. Not that easy if not working for Thai company or local branch or US company etc. Others here propably will give you more info on these.

If you are quaranteed your original position back after a year why not give it a go...

Go for it !

On 140,000thb, you'll easily be able to bank 40,000thb for savings. You'll be able to rent a decent house for 20-25,000thb, initially your biggest expense will be buying a car, but you can get a used Suzuki Carribbean for around 100,000thb.

When your child becomes school age though, that expense will become large if educating here.

Visa thing, now there are new rules, you and the family just have to fly out and come back every month.

I also have a certain amount of IT experience please PM me if your company has any other "remote" positions available.
