bob4you Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I have been told that my PI GF who is 18.5 will have a hard time coming to visit me in Thailand because she needs exit permit from PI because under 20 y/o and they don't want to allow young people to leave the country as it affects their labor force. Every thing I search only indicates needed if under 18. Anyone had any experience that they can share?
bob4you Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Will she need a round trip ticket on arrival, any experience at that?
ubonjoe Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I can't help you with your first quesion. But the Thai embassy might be able to answer it. Link to embassy website for contact info: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1331.php?depid=233 Not much info on website even the visa page is blank. Immigration may not ask to see a teturn or onward ticket but the airline will want it. You could check to see if she can get tourist visa. Which would give here a longer stay. But the embassy has a history of being not being very friendly.

Every thing I search only indicates needed if under 18. Anyone had any experience that they can share? I travelled back and forth many times with my PI gf when she as inbetween 18 and 20, but I always accompanied her. She's never needed an "exit permit" and most times she didn't have a visa. The exit permit may be required if she has a non-tourist visa with no return ticket. She will not be allowed to leave without a return ticket. I did manage one time by talking to the immigration supervisor and signing a form saying I was responsible for her, but now the airlines will not check her in without one. Last time I had to buy a throw away ticket at the Manila airport which cost me over $100. They are strict about this rule. There's no shortage of labor in the Philippines. What they are doing is trying to prevent human trafficking. It's best you just travel with her. I do know there are some additional requirements if she leaves from Clark Base. Your best option is to fly her out of Manila.
