Bangkok Bars Closed 2nd To 4th?

Featured Replies

Stickmanweekly has this note:-

It looks like there will be more bar closures this coming week in Bangkok and if the letter of the law is followed, you can expect the bars to be closed from 2 January (this coming Friday) 6 PM until midnight on January 4. There will be bar closures for sure the following week too, again, Bangkok only.
Can anyone confirm this further madness, why, election maybe????

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I thought the election was the following week, but it wouldn't be right to not have a bar closure in the tourist high (not very high this year) season. :o

I'm pretty sure that my regular bar will be open though.

Bangkok governor election is 11 January but I think last year they also closed the weekend previously as they were allowing early voting.

Madness

Think you'll be fine in Udon. :o

Yes, I think you are right, they did the same last year.

Still madness though.

I'm usually quite tame in my responses on TV.com but honestly after all we've just gone through in the tourist industry and when it looks like we are finally getting back on track these completely useless bunch of tossers throw two weekends into chaos so close to the New Year. Sure, if farangs could vote in a ridiculous municipal election then they too should abide by the rules of the land but farangs aside what about the poor people who work in the bar industry and not talking about the seedy sex side but the legitimate staff? I shake my head in total disbelief at this decision. I bet you the Brown Shirt Nazis will still be trolling around for their cut or to get tea money from poor operators serving beer in tea cups. Making criminals out of everyone. Typical aristocracy running this country again with no thought of the consequences of their high-handed actions.

Honestly what has happened here?????

B_gger! My brother in law and his mate arrive on 4th and I am meeting them in Bangkok for 3 days of R and R. Now I have to try and explain we have to enjoy ourselves without entering a bar. Anyone know where I can still take them for a drink or two?

Head down to 7-11 & stock up.

You can normally get a drink in my friend's pool hall. The Players at Asoke BTS. It will come in a coffee cup. Some nice eye candy in there too.

Hazzard a guess that there will be a few bars that will be open.....not sure if I should post the names here, just in case the BIB are monitoring. :o

The Crossbar and Soi 8 are normally open. :D

Now all we gotta do is find a way to blame the PAD for this idiocy.

Only joking.

But seriously, and before the "can't you do without a drink for two days" brigade arrive, could TAT in conjunction with the government produce a schedule of election closure dates for the year. Then folk like me can plan our R&R's to suit or change our destinations to somewhere with some dependable nightlife like Tierra del Fuego.

PS anyne know if there's gonna be any elections between 23rd January and 9th February?

C'mon Phil, how the hel_l shoud we know the answear to that one? Anything is possible here. :o

They introduced this lunacy of enforcing closures the weekend before the election so that people who were not in their home province could register to vote. So for the governorship of Bangkok this is untenable as the great Isaan populous are not entitled to vote as they are not registered in Bangkok and if they are registered in Bangkok, then they do not need time off to pre register for an absentee ballot.

Nothing surprises me here anymore though.
