So What Happens If I Dont Pay A Fine Issued By The Police?

I got a ticket in the mail from the police a while back. My GF drove away from the police. I had to pay 800B according to the ticket, but when I walked in to the police station I just asked where it was and at what time. He asked if I could pay 200B and so I did, why bother to not pay? You never know when you might need the police, they might be easy to bribe but they are good at their work.

This thread proves that it doesn't matter what VISA-regulations they enforce, there will always be scum being able to wiggle their way through.

I agree, the scum will pay in the end, the Karma of Thailand is quite strong. A balcony fall or a chalk outline on the road or a visit from the BIB. Best you head home to your mama.

Fined the other day - No licence, and some garbage about doing a U-turn.

He had some fat, balding, black, Thai bloke trying to gain brownie points by pointing out offenders.

Anyway, the <snip> took my expired Australian drivers licence... and said he said "I'll wait for you here"

I just went home and tore, chewed on it until it was totally unrecognisable and spat it off the balcony.

Who knows what germs I ended up with.

I didn't go back to the cop or to the police station and don't plan to either.

So, what happens now??

Do they hunt me down and put me in jail???

Do they list me at immigration so when I return to Thailand it comes up after they've sighted my passport?

Or does nothing happen??

A Thai friend told me that because the motorbike is in my girlfriends name, the fine will come up when she renews the motorbike licence and she can just say she doesn't know who I am and that she hires the motorbike out to stupid farangs.

Whats the worst that could happen and what is most likely to occur.

Thanks for the responses

probably nothing

I had had apx 37 incidents speeding, wrong turns, etc

I refuse to pay on the spot fine and once just tore up the piece of paper and threw it at the rude officer

they took my name, but never had any problem returning

You TORE UP a fine, and THREW IT AT AN OFFICER???I'm amazed you are still breathing, don't you read the stories about police who feel they have been treated with disrespect here? It's not a long reach for that gun they carry...To the OP,just pay the fine, and show them respect, regardless of how you feel at the time, such a small amount of money could seriously make your life a living misery,or at least your friend's,assuming you care about them. :o

So was you a man or a woman that day then? Probably makes a difference, although I find it somewhat hard to believe.

Additionally, the wheels of justice will grind into motion and your GF will likely find her bike impounded until the fine is paid.

I have never heard of a vehicle being confiscated, but I guess it might happen for a small one like a bike.

IME nothing will happen until the end of the year when you want to renew the vehicle licence, Tabien Lod.

Then you will be told you cannot until you have been to the police station and paid the fine,

which will now have a penalty attached for not paying on time.

Much better to pay the fine at the time, negotiating a "discount".

The other alternative is if you have an influential friend who can take the ticket to the

police station and get it waived, or at least discounted.

ER, nope Astral.

Have an outstanding ticket from Thong Lo for the last few months. Just renewed the registration at Nonthaburi Land Transport dept. No mention of the outstanding ticket.

Maybe it's supposed to happen the way you say....just like when the police put a notice on my pickup saying it had been wheel clamped and left me the ticket. I'm sure they're actually supposed to put the clamp on too.

Yeah, that's the way it's supposed to happen, but like the work ethic of a lot of low ranking workers (of which traffic policemen typically are), it often doesn't happen. I would think though if you make a big fuss and are rude, they'll probably find the time to turn their tickets in according to procedure before they go out and get pissed on a 199 Baht bottle of the cheapest for the day.

I thought the former well known Thaivisa member, Udon, had returned to the forum!

He made that pic his own.

alright....

so far no one has been able to provide any real answer as to what will happen if you dont pay your fine.

and since you are discussing illegal activity (against traffic law) - certainly against forum rules.

I guess conclusion I can summarise for you before closing this thread is - fellow members are saying you should abide by the law.

cheers
