Chuan Attacked With Eggs In Lampang

Eactly, why should he call elections when his party is not allowed to campaign freely?

You can't hold elections under current circumstances.

They should stop harassing opposing candidates first.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that you're just writing stuff to get a response out of people... :o

It shouldn't take the reds long to realise that their harrassment and intimidation is going to turn more and more people sympathetic to the Democrats.

If I was Khun Chuan I would keep appearing at rallies, a truly decent man, all but the blindest Thaksin supporter will be put off by the reds' treatment of him. My only fear is that some idiot will try to throw acid in Aphisit's face to spoil those good looks, and there certainly is no short supply of idiots and thugs on the reds' side.

PAD has confronted many government ministers in the South, not once any incident of throwing eggs or anything at them was reported.

And then there's the image of Chuan - he's not Samak or Chalerm who most of the time just ask to be abused back.

You guys argue lack of democracy when here we have lack of civility.

Lack of civility is the issue, and it's not really a partisan one. What's needed in Thailand is a more generous spirit and not the assumption one's opponents are sat pralaat.Abhisit is setting a very good example, and actually it's in tune with the best of Thai culture.Bangkok Pundit makes a good pont.

"The same thing happened to PPP MPs and Ministers who visited the South. They were harassed at the airport on arrival and protesters besieged their hotel or whatever venue they were at for their meeting. Sensibly, in one instance, Abhisit criticised the yellow shirts that were doing this and so should Puea Thai MPs criticise anyone who harasses and impedes Democrat MPs and Ministers from doing their job (this should be applied more strictly to Ministers than out of district MPs). MPs are elected to perform duties and people can protest against them, but this is not a protest, it is harassment. Idiots come in all shapes and sizes and shirt colors."

For once, YH, we are in complete and absolute agreement! :o

Unfortunately that is not typical to the Reds, not even to Thailand. Idiots and thugs are in oversupply in every society on this planet. It is just how much of a leash does the society give them? Here in Thailand thugs and especially idiots are given way to much leash. It is unbelievable what Thai society lets their people get away with. Even after 10 years I am still amazed from time to time.

If the Iraqi can throw shoes at Bush, what is stopping Red from throwing eggs at Chuan?

Only their civility & sense of good manners, or their understanding that being seen to behave like this destroys the image of their being democrats, which their paymaster had wished to maintain ? :o

Oh they are SOOO democratic, those reds.

So peaceful, so civilised, true hope of democracy in Thailand.

Chuan and Abhisit should continue with what they are doing, in the long run red idiots and PTP are the biggest danger to themselves.

A little question of 260 billion baht worth of damages to the country, pot calling kettle black I think...... give it up Plus, you got what you want!

Put on a yellow shirt and the leash apparently gets a whole lot longer. Way too long.

Has nothing to do with the colour of your shirt. Just immerse yourself in daily Thai life and speak the language and mostly associate with Thais for a couple of years. What many of them can get away with even when their own familymembers now it is wrong ..... nothing to o with colour of their shirt. Everything to do with kreng jai and face.

And so they are demanding new elections, yet at the same time they wont allow the Dem's to campaign. :o

no further comments!

So you two can see no difference between some by-elections (=no change in government) and a general election (=bye bye Abhisit)? Disingenuous to say the least.

Aren't they "By-Elections" anyway?

I mean they are to be held for Parties and Members which are by now defunct, banned for the next 5 years or are they genuine communal elections?

Not really sure about it...

However this is certainly NOT a good political climate to call for general elections as people are intimidated, mobbed, threatened and publicly framed and defamed.

And all through remote-control of a man who claims to love this country and wishes to "serve" it's people, especially the poor - and ehem... democracy laterrrrrr... heartwarming, patriotic, lovely stuff...but my "friend" said he has the impression that this guy is someone who would sell a TV-Magazine Subscription to a blind man.... ew...

If you are a thug who puts on a yellow shirt in protest of the popular vote, you can camp out in government house or at the airport of choice for as long as you like. Perhaps the general public does not approve, but they are inferior anyway. TiT. Army is there to back you up.

If you are a thug in a red shirt, chances are that the police actually tries to do its job.

It's been nearly a month since Abhisit became the PM.

Nothing has happened to the reds so far, they've been acting with impunity.

Apart from apparently they have now resorted to egging themselves or at least the red shirted crowd at a Buri Ram event egged their leadership! Quite amusing considering these loons have taken to bursting into ICU to verbally abuse an octagenerian woman dying of cancer.

I am sure all those that criticised the excesses of the yellows and there were a fair few will now criticse the actions of th red hooligans. Quite how you can have a fair by-election when little groups of anti-democratic red facists (should bait the reds are democracy activists gang on here quite nicely) wont allow campaigning by people they dont like is also a relevent question.

So one thug is better than another thug? If someone is a thug they should be treated as such. No need to give excuses no matter which side you are on. A thug is a thug is a thug. They should be arrested and dealt with.

But no what you are advocating is .... he could do it, why don't you let me do it. It is simple. It has to end somewhere and it ends here obviously.

Red shirt leaders get the egg treatment in Buri Ram

Jan 9, 2009 The Nation (article link)

The Friends of Newin faction had no involvement in an incident in which people in red shirts threw eggs at speakers wearing red shirts during a campaign rally in Buri Ram on Wednesday, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat said yesterday.

Red-shirt leaders, including Jatuporn Promphan and Natthawut Saikua, were hit with eggs thrown by supposed Pheu Thai supporters while seeking votes for party candidate Chamras Wiangsong, who is contesting a by-election on Sunday.

The crowd started to get agitated and booed Jatuporn and Natthawut had they took a swipe at faction leader Newin Chidchob, who was a founder of the red-shirt movement but has jumped over to the Democrat-led coalition.

Natthawut was the first campaign speaker. He mainly made sarcastic remarks about Abhisit Vejjajiva, saying the new PM relied on his good looks and not his brain to do his job.

In concluding, he alluded to the split between Pheu Thai Party and Newin.

"I really don't want to be on the other side of Newin but the political situation has forced us to separate," he said, inferring disdain for Newin's switch. But with the rally on Newin's home turf, his remarks drew boos from the crowd.

Picking on Natthawut's theme, Jatuporn also made snide remarks about the Abhisit government and Newin's role. After about three minutes, people began to throw eggs and water bottles onto the stage and brought the rally to an end.

Police had to intervene and escort the speakers, Chamras and his campaign workers away.

Chamras moved on to other rally sites amid tight security but there was no repeat of the disruption as speakers made no further reference to Newin.

Chamras filed a complaint later asking police to investigate and charge perpetrators for their unruly conduct.

Jatuporn said yesterday he suspected there was a plot to disrupt the campaign rally.

"I still believe a political group was behind the egg pelting in order to sow distrust between red-shirt crowds and their core leaders like myself and Natthawut," he said.

Natthawut said under-handed tactics had been used to try to turn the crowds against their leaders.

Banyat's campaign car pelted with eggs in Pathum Thani

Jan 9, 2009 The Nation (article link)

Pathum Thani - A man was arrested after he threw eggs against a car in an election campaign convoy led by former Democrat Party leader Banyat Bantadtan Friday morning.

Banyat and Chamni Sakdiseth, former deputy interior minister, were travelling together to help Democrat candidate Apinan Chuaybamrung campaign in the by-election in the province.

When the convoy stopped at a fresh market in Muang district, a protester pelted a car in the convoy with four eggs. The car was driven by Democrat MP Thirachart Pangwiroonrak.

A group of red-shirted protesters also followed the convoy in their pick-up truck.

Children want to see end to rallies: poll

Jan 9, 2009 - 02:04 PM Bangkok Post (article link)

The majority of children questioned in a poll conducted by Assumption University would like to see the end to political rallies as the present for Children's Day.

About 60% of the children want to see the end to the protests, while 37.2% want to see unity in the country. Some 15.8% want the adults to donate goods like sports equipment to children.

The survey questioned 1,157 children aging 10 to 15 years old living in Bangkok. It was conducted from Wednesday to Friday.

Most of the children, or 91%, say they would like adults to set good examples on showing respect to the monarchy, while 89.1% say they want to see national reconciliation. Some 72.5% say they want adults to respect the rules of laws, while 71.8% say they want them to support each other.

When asked what they want from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, about 39% say they want things like computers, mobile phones, cars and homes from him. Some 27% say they want scholarship and free education, while 22% say they want to see peace in the country.

My wife tells me it is being reported on Thai-language forums, that the egg-throwers were upset at not having yet been paid, their per-diems for attending recent rallies. Hence the alleged rise, in the fee now required to attract them, to 1,000 Baht, a sort of risk-premium. Surely this cannot be true, Thaksin is still rich, and we know from Koo's visit-report that nobody was being paid, at the rally in Bangkok.

Perhaps it was under-cover police to blame, there were reports that they attended PAD rallies, who knows ?

Lucky for Jatuporn & Natthawat that none of their supporters had brought their bags-of-shit to the rally ! :o

What I find amusing is they have photos of a lady in red having an egg in her hand, and this policeman commented this and that, and that politician commented again some these and those, but when PAD blocked airports, these policemen and politicians didn't say a word.

Why do eggs are more important than 350,000 tourists stranded at airports?
