1 killed, 4 injured in 5-vehicle pileup

BANGKOK: -- One man was killed and four others severely injured when a speeding pick-up truck lost control, crashing into another pick-up, leading to a five-vehicle pileup in Bangkok early Friday.

Police said the accident happened at 3:30 am on the Seree Thai Road in front of the National Institute of Development Administration.

Police said the pick-up truck, driven by Surachai Puthom, 32, was speeding from the Bangkapi Intersection and lost control and crossed over to the opposite lane, crashing into a pick-up truck driven by Boonyod Wongchaphet, 42.

Surachai's truck also hit a mini pickup driven by Boonchu Polsri, 51. The impact hurled Boonchu out of his truck, killing him at the scene.

Another pick-up truck and a taxi also hit the three vehicles.

Boonchu's son and Surachai's wife were among the injured.
