Hi,

Got a friend coming to Thailand for a holiday and is going to have a look around other S.E.Asia countries whilst away from the UK for 6 months.

Their plane ticket from LHR-BKK-LHR is valid for 6 months.

Their main concern is that they won't be allowed into Thailand because they have no visa and just want a 30 day tourist visa on arrival but their ticket out of Thailand is 6 months away.

Will they be allowed into Thailand or even board at LHR??

I'm thinking no worries, backpackers must do this all the time.

What's the rules?

Many Thanks in advance, Boycie.

There's a chance he'll not be allowed to board in LHR. Better buy on onward ticket or get a visa. Or write an e-mail to the airline and ask for a reply on e-mail (take the e-mail with you to the airport).

He should get a visa. Airline will not let him on the flight unless he has a ticket within 30 days. Plus if he makes any border entries he will only get 15 days per entry.

He can get a 2 (or more) entry tourist visa which would give him 6 months total by getting a 30 day extension on each entry at immigration. And by getting re-entry permits he could leave and re-enter during his permit to stay for his entries/extensions.

Or he could get a non-o multiple entry at the consulate in Hull which would allow him to leave and re-enter as many times as hw wants.
