I'm writing on behalf of a young friend who is volunteering near Lomsak, Petchabun province. Her 90 days expires 14 Feb. She needs an extra 30 day extension. she's stressed about reading that if she goes over the border anywhere by land that she will only get a 15 day extension. Can you shed any light on this, and what are her options?

She will only get 15 days at a border crossing (30 by air) unless she has a multiple entry visa.

With a work permit and the proper paperwork she could a an extension at immigration. With no work permit it will only be a 7 day extension.

Otherwise she will have to leave the country and get a new visa.

Thanks for the prompt reply. As we thought. If she went up to Laos and applied for a new tourist visa, could she get 30 days?

If she went to any Thai Consulate abroad she would get a 60 day Tourist Visa. This can be extended at Immigration for another 30 days. Vientienne Laos will even give her a double entry tourist visa.

Also she is probably working illegally if she does not have a Work Permit, but that is up to her.
