I think it's hokus pokus and won't let my wife do it. She's due in April. I tried to research it but the nearest I got to it were Scandinavians having saunas post birth. I believe there is no scientific proof of even that being beneficial. I think it's just an old custom that's outdated.

This subject has been on this forum before under 'Thai Sauna', I believe.
