A Query Regarding Thai Law...pg Rated!

Hello folks, a newbie here so be gentle please! :o

I have a question which may sound a little odd but I'd be very grateful if somebody could give me a definitive answer......

I'm flying to Bangkok in a few days' time and I was planning on taking a vibrator with me so I thought I'd check just to make sure I won't get any bother for it from customs/immigration types. However, I read this on thaipulse.com:

In addition to pornography laws Thailand also restricts the possession of marital aids like dildos. They may not allow you to bring it in your suitcase - so, avoid bringing any such risque items if you can't afford to lose it or face the embarrassment of them pulling it out of your luggage for all to see.

Is this true? Would I be better off not taking it? I'm planning on travelling to Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China too and I guess the laws there may be similar....

All help much appreciated! :D

Go to the red channel!

and do what? Declare it and it will be confiscated.

I've brought a few (not all at once) in checked baggage with no problems. Take the batteries out so it doesn't look like a bomb, chances are it won't even attract a second glance.

That said, I wouldn't risk it going to China and they are illegal, so up2u.

You can apparently buy "massagers" in BKK anyway, if you know where to go (I don't).

Thanks Crossy, useful info. I thought China might be a bit of a problem! I bought the vibe here in Oz but I'm going back to the UK after Asia so I think I'll just have to gift it to some poor undersexed mite here and just buy another in Blighty. :o

Whatever you do take the batteries out before putting it in your suitcase.

A mate of mine had to identify his buzzing luggage at an airport arpon when the switch was accidentally knocked on during loading on the 'plane.

And this was pre-911 so only caused minor amusement. I don't think it would be appreciated in these paranoid times.

Reminds me of a funny story when I worked as groundcrew at a UK airport.

Sometimes during quiet times we sat in with the security staff and watched the bags going through the scanners.

One day the security officer on duty called me over and pointed out a large vibrator on the screen.

He informed the guy that he would have to perform a security check on his bag.

The Reverend so and so was embarrassed to say the very least and nearby passengers got a big laugh.

There are sex shops all over Beijing openly selling vibrators, so I am not sure Crossy's advice is correct, so far as China is concerned.

Maybe you can hide it somewhere customs do not normally look ? :o

but <deleted> wipe the smile off your face as you walk through customs.

As for their illegality I can remember being a little shocked back in '92, first time to Thailand, seeing vibrators openly displayed in Laem Thong shopping store near Laem Chabang port. They were probably passed off as massagers but they were vibrators of the sexual pleasure kind plain and simple.
