Vicks First Defence Spray

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if this is avaliable in Thailand, it can stop colds /infections dead in their tracks. You spray some up your nose and into your throat (i think) when you first feel the symtoms of a cold/infection coming on. And, if you are too late the symtoms of a common cold can be reduced by as much as 40%. People back in the UK are swearing by it. I am sick of being sick in Thailand and from the plane journeys etc so was thinking this might be a worthy £6 to spend, asked everywhere locally in BKK where i live but no luck.

thanks

Not available in Thailand AFAIK

The active ingrediant is zinc, which has indeed been shown to help prevent or reduce the severity of respiratory infections (also shortens the duration/reduces severity of diarrheal illnesses). While not available in the nasal spary form here, you can get it in oral form (at GNC and similiar places) and may find that effective if taken immediately at the first sign of a cold.

Personally I use zinc throat lozenges (asince with me a cold always starts with a sore throat anyhow) and they work very well. Brounght mine from the US but I belive I read post a while back from someone who said they'd seen them for sale in LOS somewhere.

Interesting tip. Certainly pencilled that one. Would it work against non allergic rhinitis.

I used VFD both as a prophylactic (when I had to take a tube ride or other crowded environment) and at any hint of symptoms and I managed to stay cold-free for about two years. Brought several bottles with me this trip but didn't unpack it in time and came down with something, however it only really lasted a couple of days once I got the VFD on the job.

It's pretty brutal on the nose (you don't spray it into the throat but rely on some of the nasal application reaching there) especially the first few times you use it - expect some major eye watering, but I'd say it does the job.

For those times when it looks like last night's barbecue is about to have it's revenge I use Immodium Instants ( 2mg Loperamide Hydrochloride) - again I brought a stock over with me but haven't looked for them over here yet (just a mo. while I put it on my shopping list for tomorrow 8^) )

The only other thing I miss is 2 in 1 shampoo+conditioner rarer than hens' teeth for some reason :o

Boots sell Immodium not sure they sell instants

Boots sell Immodium not sure they sell instants

Ta :o

Boots, Siam Sqaure:

Immodium but no instants.

No VFD

On reflection, can you imagine the sale of anything that actually prevents cold being allowed by the influential multi-trillion baht Strepsils Cartel :o
