Some parts of Krabi, especially the Phi Phi Island, are beginning to experience the affects of the drought situation. Ao Nang Sub-district Administration Organization chief Pankam Kittitornkul stressed Phi Phi in particular, saying that the amount of water reserved in a private pond declined to very low levels, while villagers’ wells, residents and businesses have to purchase water for domestic consumption. He said if the situation goes on for 1-2 months, the island will face severe water shortage for residents. Mr. Pankam also reports that the famous tourist area of Ao Nang also faces insufficient water supply due to tourism business growth. He seeks residents and members of the public to conserve water. The local government prepares water trucks to distribute water free of charge for those households who are in difficulty while business operators will be charged at 200-300 baht per truck.
