The 60 Days Rule For 400k Extension Based On Marriage ...

Featured Replies

My annual extension based on my marriage to my wife is due again on March 23rd and I have a bit of an issue. Not sure if it is an issue, actually. I deposited the 400k needed on my Bangkok Bank account on December 21st (+3 months before) and it stayed there until January 19th when I forgot that my monthly credit card statement is billed on the same bank account as I put the money on, so my credit card company withdrew 179,000 Baht on January 19th, putting the balance at only 211,000 Baht. Since I had already paid that amount to the credit card company in cash a few days earlier, they shouldn't have even debited this amount, so they returned it to my bank account on January 21st. I then withdrew all the money (the full 400k) and moved it to my other Kasikorn Bank account where it has been since January 21st, just in case so that my credit card company won't withdraw it again by mistake.

My question basically ..since my visa expires on March 23rd, I'd normally go for the new annual extension around March 15th, which would however put my 400k balance at under 60 days, since it was 'interrupted' for 2 days in January?

Do you think Immigration will accept that? Or am I better off going on March 23rd (which is a Monday)? I don't like to leave my extension to the last day, though.

I just counted the days it has continuously been in the Kasikorn Bank account. It would add up to exactly 61 days on the day my visa expires, March 23rd. But I don't feel good going for an extension on the day it expires, because if I'm missing something there's no time to fix it.

In addition, I found that March 23rd is a 'public holiday', the 'Memorial Day'. On some websites it shows but on others not, so I'm not sure if it's really a holiday or not. But I believe Immigration should be open that day. I will confirm just in case.

I'm guessing the best is to get all my documentation together and go to Immigration around the 12th or so to ask if I can apply already. And if not, when to come back?

As a last resort, would Immigration grant a temporary 7 or 30 day extension to put my over the hill with the 60 days funds in the bank?

I think I would give it try on the 20th. They might let you do it since the 21st is a Saturday. At least that way even if they tell you no you would be able to find out if you are missing anything.

Thanks a lot for your response. That makes sense :o I also have a monthly overseas income based on which I made my last extension, but the 400k in the bank is just a lot easier. I guess I could show them both just in case.

The money has to be in the bank for AT LEAST 60 calendar days, no exceptions. They are so strict on this it's not even funny.

When you go to apply for the 1 yr extension they will stamp your passport with an "under consideration" stamp which will give you another 3-4 weeks while you wait for the result. Just make sure you have everything you need or you're going to have real problems if they don't accept your paperwork that day. Normally you are supposed to apply for the extension with 30 days left on your current visa.

Good luck!

Not exactly like that , within the last 30 days is correct .

last january I brought my mom to make her retirement extension in CM ,

with you guess it 30 days left , the imm officer said she still had another month left ,

and no need to come early like that , so ......

Well, the funds were above 400k again on January 21st, so that makes 10 days until January 31st. Another 28 days in February brings me to 38 days, which means my 60 days would be met on March 22nd (which is a Sunday) ..and my visa expires on March 23rd. :o I guess I will go a few days early just in case and try. At least they could confirm if all my paperwork is together.

My checklist (3 copies of everything, to be safe):

- Passport.

- Tabien Baan.

- Marriage certificate in Thai.

- Original bank book.

- Bank letter certifying the 400k (issued on the same day).

Anything I'm missing? Since it's my 3rd extension, I don't think they'll need the wedding photos or wedding night video tape anymore.

Two calendar months, not 60 days. There was post the other by a member who was sent back when he wanted to apply with the money in the account for exactly 60 days, which was less than two months. In the case of Rainman, however, two months happen to be less than 60 days.

Yes. 2 months would mean 21st March.

2 calendar months or 60 days, either way I'm safe on Monday the 23rd. Just need to have all the documents in order, of which I'll make sure by going a few days before, even if I get told to come back. :o

I decided to give my extension a try late next week, based on both 400k in the bank for (barely, to the day) 2 months and 40k+ per month overseas income. If they don't accept one, I have the option of the other, just in case.

My checklist looks as follows, am I missing anything? I made 3 copies of everything.

• Application Form

• 3 Passport Photos

• My Passport

• 3 Passport Copies (all important pages)

• Original Income (40k+) Letter from my Company.

• Income (40k+) Letter Translation

• Income (40k+) Letter Confirmation from Embassy

• Original Bank Book

• 3 Bank Book Copies of all pages.

• Bank Letter confirming THB 400,000 balance.

• Bank Wire Overseas Transfer Statements showing 40k+ per month (last 6 months)

• Wife's Passport

• 3 Passport Copies

• Wife's ID Card

• 3 ID Card Copies

• Tabien Baan

• 3 Copies of Tabien Baan

• Marriage Certificate

• 3 Copies of Marriage Certificate

• Map to House (they only needed this on my 1st extension though)

• Photos of House (they only needed this on my 1st extension though)

• Marriage Photos (they only needed this on my 1st extension though)

My checklist looks as follows, am I missing anything? I made 3 copies of everything.

One very important item. Your Wife. Just take the original. :o

I'll take the original wife and 3 full body photo copies just in case. Better safe than sorry! :o

Hi Rainman

This is a question for you.I'm basically gonna be going through the same situation sometime in October 2009.Where did you first apply for your visa and what type was it?Do they give you a 6 month stamp or a year? Also I hold 800,000 + in a joint account with my wife is that ok?Do they really want to see wedding photo's?And excuse my ignorance what is "Tabien Baan"

Cheers mate

Was that more than a question? :o
