Was in Carrefour yesterday and saw a big bunch of guitars on display including at least one Yamaha.

Perhaps you could wander by and have a look.

There's at least one on Siproom Road, that's the inside of the moat between Chang Puak Gate and the bowling alley. More or less opposite Icon Square computer plaza. Also third floor, Airport Plaza opposite Big Camera. No idea of stock but a place to start.

As an apology for a guitarist who has been banging away for the last decade or so, I strongly recommend avoiding the starter packs. The quality of the instrument is obviously a starter and therefore comes with some inherent defects. Set up is vital on a guitar - chances are it won't be doing you any favours as a beginner trying to train your fingers to make the chords. Secondly the quality of production often leaves a lot to be desired.

I recommend buying a good second hand guitar as they often get better with age - plus the extra mojo that comes with a well played instrument. You also have to think about the music you want to play as this would have a direct influence on your choice of axe and amp. A metal head would need a completely different set up and equipment than a laid back dude going down the well troden road of jazz.

Try some of the second hand sites or take a trip down to Bangkok where there are a number of good second hand stores. My mate Sak (a very famous Thai master guitar tech) could also look over your aquisition and make the adjustments you need to make the most out of it. He's not expensive at all.

Good luck and PM if you want any guidance
