I lost my UK driving licence and UK IDP on a trip to Vietnam about 3/4 years ago, already had a Thai car which was used for everything, 15 kms to any local shops, extensive travels all around Thailand etc. Therefor had no choice to take the Thai test, simple and easy to do after a bit of research, took about a month and 4 goes at getting the questions right, even offered to rewrite the questions into something someone who understands English would be able to understand, gobbledygook translations from Thai to English was the problem, turned out the Head guy at the Phichit DLT did the translation and he was not amused when it was pointed out. The female Officer who did it after I explained the problems was about 6 months pregnant, she helped me through it, she saw the problems and agreed with me it was very confusing as written, eventually past the computer tick box test with flying colours. The driving test could be done by anyone who can reach the pedals, pull up parallel to the kerb before a stop junction, drive forward, reverse into a parking place big enough to put 2 vehicles in, drive out, turn right come to a stop, then reverse back straight through an avenue of traffic cones without hitting anything and the tests done. As with all things dealing with Thai officialdom a friendly attitude and a smile on your face goes along way, dressed smart casual with long trousers a long sleeved shirt helps too, apparently according to her Ladyship, keeps the minions at bay.
