Nissan Nv,ground Clearance

Recommended Posts

hi thinking of buying a nissan nv but want to increase the ground clearence,

how should i do it,

change the shocks or wheels,

how high can i go withhout ruining the road handeling

and how much would it cost,

do most of my driving on paved mountain roads,it's just the odd dirt lane

i need to pass,

don't want to get a truck or jeep just for that,

thanks for any help,

A standard sprung nv fitted with 16inch wheels 205/60 tyres will give you a few more cm clearance or 205/65 for a bit more will still drive and ride reasonable and will go on type of roads/tracks you describe had one(Queen cab) done it, i think 17s ride will be poor. Are you looking at old single cabs as most of them the boyracers have lowered. Otherwise you have to replace the springs not the shocks can't see somchai being able to get his head round that if you ask raising a nv :o . Is 205 dead already! :D

yes 205 dead aready,

so what would i need,

change the wheels to 16",what sise are the standard wheels,

can i get wider wheels with all terain tyers,

then leave the standerd shocks or can i raise them too

sorry ,never did this before

In your OP you wanted the NV to go on paved roads and odd dirt lane, now you appear to want to turn it into a full offroad vehicle completly outside the scope of a NV, buy a Suzuki Jeep.

A Suzuki Jeep would indeed be MUCH better off road. On road they're of course terrible.

Then again, NVs are front wheel drive so in many ways better than regular (real wheel drive) pickups when it gets slippery.

I think I've seen raised ones, mostly for rallying type looks.

Best option: 4x4 pick up truck.

i know what you mean about the jeep, but i don't really need a jeep,

i have a dirt bike for off road,

an nv would be fine the way it is,

i just want to make it take the bumps better on the poorly paved roads

and have a bit more grip on the odd track i have to go over,

so,could i widen the wheels,

put on all terain tires and raise the shocks,a little

do you think...............

We live on a sloping dried up river bed when it's not raining and a raging torrent of a river when it is raining, but our

NV automatic never gets stuck or grounds on exposed rocks and high spots.

Automotive suspensions are about as mysterious as fallopian tubes to me, stuck down inside some dark slippery place, working its magic magically.... :o

I thought all terrain tires and raising the shocks or springs would make it ride rougher, not smoother. Or, cause it to ovulate more often. :D

chianrai just look at some rally footage on youtube when the going gets wet and slippery they put on narrower rims and in the case of snow/ice rims motorbike width to cut through (i know with studs but the theory slippier = narrower) as you state a standard NV will be fine as it is, so leave it at that unless your object is to waste money?.

Remember raising the car just using changes in the wheel diameter will give false speedo and odometer readings. Acceleration might also be affected. Try to keep the overall diametre the same and look for other ways to raise it a bit.

Shocks won't change the ride height. Only springs or other suspension components will do that. Do you have a coil spring suspension or some other kind? Coil springs are easiest to change out.

i'm thinking of buying a nissan nv,i presume it has coil suspension,

how would i raise thi 2\3 inches,

would it still ride reasonably on the road,

so i don't want to change the wheel diameter,do you think,

widening the wheels or tires would soften the bumps or

give it more grip

i really have no knolage about these things,

thanks
