There's a lot of info already posted about this.

If you get a 1 year visa, it expires 1 year after it was issued- not 1 year from when you enter Thailand.

Get your visa from Hull by post 2 weeks before you travel.

Whatever visa you apply for, plan the application to suit your travel itinerary. Normally, one would apply for a visa close to the travel date, particularly if it is for a visa valid for more than one entry and one wants to use it to stay in Thailand as long as possible with some border runs.

A visa from a Thai consulate in Thailand would normally be valid for travel for 90 days or 3 months from the date of issue if the visa is for one entry, valid for 190 days or 6 months if it is for more than one entry.
