bigsy94 Posted July 23, 2009 Share Posted July 23, 2009 Just want to say a big THANK YOU to everybody on here I dont know what I would have done without you all, from my first separate thread about how to fill in the visa forms and what documents were needed you were all great, especially Boo who was one of the first to get in touch and told me not to worry about Jamie not having a job...a job offer was enough, she was right A special thanks to Andy & Pingit for their help and support over the last few days Really feel for you Chewy I was so convinced that they had lost our application, you must be tearing your hair out. You will get yours keep strong (easier said than done, I hit the wine last night...well had one glass) Just one thing you have put me down as waiting 14 weeks it was 15 today Will keep popping in to keep an eye on how everyone is doing. Have you had an interesting history.........e.g. worked in sensitive industry, government etc?? Not at all. No crime records etc Good boy all my life Many attempts at the embassy switchboard today and the just put you onto the answer machine. God knows Chew. Pingit, you could have a point but sounds like a long shot, I've even heard of muslim names being mixed up for certain 'undesirable' families but then chewy might be called Mr and Mrs Smith! Buzby Posted July 23, 2009 Share Posted July 23, 2009 I am nearly finished compiling a little spreadsheet comparing the SV stats with other UK Embassies worldwide. I only have May & Junes figures but it does show that Bangkok is fighting relegation so to speak. I will post later today/tomorrow. Seems we cant upload Excel documents???? Oh well, it doesn't really show much that we don't know already. The stats do show that Bangladesh & Iran are very good places to apply. 70% & 90% respectively within 15 days. Personally I have never been to either place but maybe there is a correlation between nightlife options available and SV processing times. Too many distractions in Bangkok!! Normally the processing time in Bangkok for a settlement visa is 10 to 15 days, often shorter. This was certainly the case for most of 2008. All the indications are that there has been a continuing surge in applications to Bangkok, starting early this year. When the statistics for this year are published it will be interesting to see how the number of applications compare to previous years. I wonder why that is? The economic downturn means expats wanting/having to return home? Thai government cracking down on visa runners? Simply coincidence? Something else? Has there been a reduction, planned or otherwise, in ECO's. Even a temporary reduction of staff at a time when application numbers are rising considerably could result in the situation we find ourselves at the moment. I read previously about Bangkok taking on the applications from 1 or 2 neighbouring countries. Did this happen around the turn of the year?? If so then surely that must be a factor. I think a large part of the problem must be local. Surely Thailand is not unique in that its had a surge in applications due to the economy. So for me its a combination of many factors some of which were impossible to predict. Friday today. Lets hope we have lots of good news before the weekend. nelson111 Posted July 24, 2009 Share Posted July 24, 2009 Just a quicky before my credit runs out - text yesterday at 1646, picked up the visa today (2407), dated 22-07. So, a little under the 12 week mark,which was a happy surprise. At the airport now for an overnight flight, in time for my mates wedding tomoorow at 11am. 26 hours ago it looked like Bob Hope and no hope for attending that. What a turnaround. I sent them a mail a couple of weeks ago about the wedding, never got a reply but maybe it shuffled things along a couple of days. Who knows? OK, better get going, be a shame to miss the flight after all this! Good luck to those still waiting, I hope this is a sign that things are improving. Congratulations to Kate, Cinermanroll and everybody else who (finally) heard this week. Lets hope the change in activity continues for everybody now . Good luck. Kate I know what you mean about seeing your grandchild, my daughter had a baby girl two weeks before we came here and I (and my wife) couldn't wait to see her. No more life on hold, hair torn out, intermediable long phone calls, crying (not me!) etc etc.:-) Thanks to everyone for their sharp and quick answers.And pingit and mikeyp for their PMs. The TW seems to think I have all the answers of which I actually get most of them from TV. I am self-employed and incidently it appears from opened folder items that (among others but not many) :- Marriage documents checked (predictably) TWs old passport was checked (have many visa stamps) Photocopies of tax returns for last 4 yrs (ended last yr) not checked Business bank account statements for last 5 years (ended last yr) thoroughly checked. Personnal statements (have 6 yrs) only last 6 months checked. And once again no interview. I got up at 3 am today to phone the embassy and no way will the switchboard put you through to the visa section what ever you say “strict instructions” I decided to play my last card and phone the ECM direct as I have his extension number but it’s now defunct. So I again phoned the switchboard and I was given a new number and yes you guessed it! He will not pick up at all.
