First, since this is my first post, I would like to say hello to everyone from Huntsville, Alabama.

With that said, I have a question:

I will be retireing from US Fed Gov civil service in a couple of months. I don't plan on living permanently in Thailand, however, I would like to rent a condo in Pattaya for maybe 5 months at a time, then back to the US for maybe 3 months or more, then Pattaya for 4 or 5 more months ..... and so on and so on. I am 55 years old and have paid Blue Cross health benifits through the Government.

1. What kind of a Visa is required for someone just wanting to stay less than 6 months at a time (retired and not working in LOS)?

2. Do I need to show some sort of financial responsibility? How do you do that?

3. How much would this cost me for the Visa for a 4 or 5 month stay?

I plan on spending around $2,000 US per month for all living expenses while in the LOS.

BTW, if it's too big of a pain in the ass, I can always stay in the PI instead. No real problem there.

Thanks much, :o

A double-entry tourist visa is the answer. Each entry permits you to stay 60 days, extendable to 90 at the local immigration office. After 90 days you have to do a day trip out of the country and re-enter on your second visa entry.

Cost? Well, at the Thai consulate in Liverpool it is £25.00 per entry, so about $36.00, $72.00 in total. An additional fee of 2000 baht is charged by the Thai immigration service when you extend your 60 day entry from within the country.

Look on this web site for a One Year "Multiple Entry O Visa"

Make sure it is a Multiple Entry.

This is easy to get in the States. You can stay for 90 days then you must do a visa run. Come and go as many times as you like, each entry will be for 90 days.

I just got this visa last month for $40 before the price increase. The new cost around $125.

No financial disclosure required.  :o
