Curious To Learn

Featured Replies

Hi,

A quick one. Looks like I'm stopping in BKK (elsewhere Thai later) for a while. Just starting to pick up some language all be it slowly. Anyway, I feel a bit ignorant about buddhism and I like to know if there are schools or temples geared up to teach the basics in English. Maybe it will be a good thing for me ,but I'd just like to understand more. I'd like to learn to meditiate too. Location Klong Tan at the moment.

You are on the right path Simon, that's all I can add.

Hi Simon,

There's the International Buddhism Centre at Doi Suthep, on the outside of Chaing Mai if you're getting up that way. Our fearless leader in this forum wrote a piece on it here:

Or if you can't get out of BKK for whatever reason, there's a meditation centre at Wat Mahathat where you can get instruction in English.

Wat Mahathat, also know as Temple of the Great Relive is located on Na Phrathat Road between Silpakorn University and Thammasat University. The back of the temple faces the Pramane Ground, or Sanam Luang.

The temple complex is open daily from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Telephone - 2226011, 2228,004

Temple of the Great Relic, right? Although Relive has a nice ring to it. :o

The International Buddhist Meditation Centre at Wat Mahathat is at Section 5, a building near the monks' residences.

Free of charge, instruction in English available. If you spend the night there you'll need white clothing, but they can provide or arrange for that.
