The crowd will disrupt things and cause problems in the short-term but let's be honest a change is needed to this corrupt and chaotic country! From the top down, it is like a bunch of kids playing at big boys games but with no idea how to even switch the GameBoy on...

For those who haven't seen it yet, watch the news tonight and wait for the clip to be shown again of the attack on Abhisit's car. I cannot call it a motorcade as that would be too grand an expression for a retarded driver who cannot drive straight, runs over a motorbike, drives the PM with the car doors unlocked and puts the PM at risk as a result all after stopping at a red light. The PM must have been really happy after being trapped inside the Roay Cliff Hotel for three hours before... and then the police let one of the attackers escpe from the police station. Unreal...

If you ever wanted a prime example of the hopeless inadequate abilities of this nation, that was it. The clip was on the BBC news site and my frinds in the UK were in hysterics when they saw what passes for an organised security measure here.... Put lines of police along the road but have no idea at all how to put security into place. I am sure the attendees to the next Asean meeting on Friday will bring their own security!!!

Grow up Thailand!

http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?hl=...ek&start=10 Have a look at this, the red shirts were able to run the PM's car down twice, without any police interferance

I think the video runs through the same scene twice but yes, quite hysterical to see the total incompetence of what passes for Police or anything else here! And the funniest thing fo all is trying to suggest any help - always the same answer, 'we're fine. We know what we are doing'! Oh, how things will come and 'bite you in the bottom' (as my odd German friend used to say but true) for your ignorance...

The Nation is reporting 100,000 now, with more expected to join tonight.

I agree that numbers are not the key element. However most protests do hope for a large number in order to gather more attention to their cause.

To compare the number of protesters to the number in the population of a country is odd to me. There have been a number of protests in the US on issues from the Iraq war to Anti-abortion. I dont recall anyone ever claiming to know the percentage of support by knowing the number of protesters.

Im very curious about the Red Power page coming up before entering The Nation online, I always felt this to be a PAD sided paper - any ideas?

I think it's more Pro-PAD as well. Somebody probalby just cracked their server passwords and put it up an they are not smart enough to delete it ;-) Remember, this is Thailand. Nothing here is what it seems :-)

Don't forget, the PAD had "the final rally" quite often for about 6 months before THE COURT AND NOT THE PAD made the PPP be dissolved.

This should mean we should be on for another 5 months of the REDS rallies then :o

100,000 today.

200,000 after Songkran

300,000 in May ????

and so on and so forth.........

LOL

Try 120,002...........and likely lots lots more by later this evening.

Ha Ha :o

Thats a lot of vomit. I wouldn't want to be there at Songkran. Brrrrr...just the thought of more than 100,000 Red Trolls vomitting all over the place. :D

Give it a couple more weeks and only Itchy and Scratchy will be left there, after the Government sprays them with their own version of Poision Ivy. ;-)

There are a lot of -----, but very loud farangs around. They do not understand Thailand, they live in their little "education" world. They cannot get past the spin they are spun.

They will post on Forums about how wonderful the Democrats are, and how bad Thaksin was...........when in fact they do not understand the past 60 years of Thai history, or speak to a broad cross section of the Thai population.

It was always going to be well over 100,000.

The demo's will go on and on.

When one ends a few weeks later another will happen.

All the time more and more Thais will lose thier job, their security and will want a return to the TRT times. And so the numbers will swell, more and more.

Its really going to snowball against the Democrats and the Elite if they are not very careful.

Its always best to negotiate when you are strong........as in now, rather than let the others smell blood and then try to negotiate, for once they smell bood the boot is on the other foot, and then they do not want to negotiate.

Some good points -

I would like to see some negotiation come from all this and have an election called. The Oxford educated - Albhisit and his "Democrat party" could certainly run. And I have no problem if Thaksin is still out of the country or in Jail.

Point is the longer this goes on the worse it is for the country. You are right, the economy here is headed for harder times in the near future. And there is no doubt many affected will blame the current government, right or wrong and join in the Red movement.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that contrary to the PAD crowd, vastly composed of old ladies, middle class housewives coming with their kids (and their self-indulgence) at the sittings and other wanke_rs who don't actually need to work to make a living and therefore can afford to come clap their little clappers ad eternum, the reds are mostly working class peoples who, as crazy as it sounds for a Bangkok hiso, have to work in order to pay the bills at the end of the month.

City’s losses tripled under Thaksin

Manchester City Football Club’s losses nearly tripled and its net assets shrank by more than half while the club was owned by Thaksin Shinawatra.

The dramatic fall in the asset value, from £57.2m to £24.5m, was caused mainly by a £50m splurge on new players.

Newly filed group accounts for Manchester City Ltd show a pre-tax loss of £32.6m the year to May 31, 2008, nearly three times the £11m loss posted a year earlier.

The accounts cover the one and only full season during which City was controlled by Thaksin, who sold a 90 per cent stake to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd in September last year for a reported £210m.

Shortly before he sold the club, Thaksin was forced to flee Thailand and last October he was convicted of corruption by the Thai supreme court and sentenced in his absence to two years in jail.

Thaksin was expected to seek political asylum in the UK but in November he was banned from returning here and now divides his time between homes in Dubai and Hong Kong. In February he was removed as honorary president of Manchester City,a new post created for him at the time of the sale to Abu Dhabi United Group.

The size of the club’s losses during the 2007/08 season is an indication that owning a Premier League club was probably unsustainable for Thaksin, a former telecoms entrepreneur who had £1.18bn of his wealth frozen by the Thai authorities after he was deposed as prime minister in a 2006 military coup.

It is the same at any top flight club outside the top four. If you are going to compete then you need to spend money. There is no guarantee of silverware either, no matter how much money you spend.

Citeh fans will see his period at their club as successful as he raised the profile of the club internationally and paved the way for the new owners who have made Citeh the richest club in the World.

He also profited substantially from the sale of his majority stake and got out when he discovered that breaking into the top clubs in the Premiership is a gargantuan task that even an investment of billions does not guarantee, especially now there is TV pressure and bias towards the more successful and higher profile teams. A good business decision IMO.

You can be sure that this new Sheik will spend a lot more with the same effect.

ABC news............It has been reported they are expecting up to 300,000 people from the eastern and northern parts of the country for a massive rally in Bangkok, calling it their "D-Day".................The Red Shirts, as they have become locally known...............are comprised mostly of the rural poor and city dwellers who still long for the countryside.

Hmm hardly even reporting but they do mention the 300,000 number

If you can sleep better tonight, go with 30,000.
