Best Place For Japanese Style Tattoo In Bkk

I've visited many of the tattoo shops in Bangkok and they all say they can do the design I want, which is a full back piece which is very traditional Japanese looking, some difficult shading and patterns. I know that only 10% of these places will actually do a good job, I don't really care about the price as If I can't find a place I'm happy with here I will go to Japan to do it on my next trip, although the price is 13-15k Yen per hour.

I've rounded the best places down to,

Tattoo Diamond Studio - http://www.tattoodiamond.com/index.html

Max Body Art Tattoo Crew - http://www.maxtattoobangkok.com/index.html

Eak Tattoo - http://eaktattoo.com/index.php

Pumpkin Studio - http://www.pumpkin-tattoo.net/

Jimmy Wong studio - I cant seem to find a link for his shop

At the moment I'm leaning towards Max Tattoos as his email response was great and he has a lot of Japanese work in his gallery.

Does anyone have any personal experience with any of these?

I hear Jimmy Wong is also great at Japanese style

Do you have yourself Tattoo'ed with Bamboo? I find the lines are not so sharp. I used to go to a Tattoo Parlour behind M's Bar on Kho San Road about 10 years ago but the shop has moved. And I wish I could find it. Any idea's :o

Hi, Yeah I got a Tattoo from Arjan Noo a few years back, and also at Wat Bang Pra. They used a long metal rod with a single needle on the end, Though Ive only seen this technique of Tattoo called 'Bamboo' at kao san or on the Islands, The Thais call it Sak Yant.

A Japanese master by the name of Hiriyoshi 3 used the japanese stlye of 'bamboo' which in Japanese is called 'Tebori', check out some of the videos on you tube of his work, I think the lines are pretty fine.

For anyone looking at this post for future reference,

The best shop of the sites I quoted above was by far Max Tattoos, he has a young guy working for him who does amazing freehand tattoos in the style of Shiege, from Yellow Blaze Tattoos in Japan. His work is extremely close to that of Yellow Blaze, which is one of the most expensive shops in Japan. The prices here are higher than some other well known shops in kao San, but if your after quality its definitely worth it.

The main guy at Diamond Tattoo, P Nu, also does all his work freehand but when I visited he was away at a tattoo convention in Germany.

I have three large pieces done by Nu at Diamond including a full back that was completed just before he went to Germany. He is in Germany for 3 months working so won't be back until the end of May.

He did my back completely freehand and I think it looks great. The attachment shows it half way through.

Nu at Diamond did my back, arm (if you go on his website you can see the arm work) and stomach, all told over 50 hours work. I think I have had enough now though!! David Beckham once said that the pain of being tattooed was addictive. I am here to say that it is NOT!!!! I thought the back would be relatively painless but it was 19 hours of pure agony!!

My friends got their tattoos done at Naga Tattoo in Chiang Mai, North Thailand. I was there with them and the studio is amazing and chilled out. The Naga crew are awesome and very cool guys as well as great artists. They charge about 2,500 Baht/hr which is a lot more than most Thai tattoo studios but you can see why it costs more when they work. They are very efficient at cleaning and preparing everything making sure nothing is risked in quality throughout the whole process. They can bring any idea you have to life in a piece of fantastic art. I am a graphic designer so I am creating my own design for them to do for me. They have a website nagatattoo.com

Enjoy the pain.
