About a week ago, my dog suddenly would not stand on the rear right leg anymore. After checking with the nearest animal clinic, they sent us to the animal hospital a few streets down where an X-ray revealed that the round bone that holds the upper leg in place (I don't know the right medical terms) nearly gone. Either from running around too much or it wasn't grown completely in the first place, which is according to the vet quite common and the likely cause. So what happens is that she's now limping on 3 legs because the other leg is not properly in place inside the bone at the hips.

The vet suggested to wait for a week, but now after a week it isn't getting any better. She's running around a lot better, yes, like before, but she's still not standing on the 4th leg. So we may have to make a surgery to put in place an artificial bone piece on the leg to hold it in place and for her to be able to walk normally again.

The vet said that the surgery costs about 6,000 Baht. I don't care about the price. I don't mind paying 60,000 if my dog recovers well from it, so I wanted to check if anyone knows of an especially good animal hospital in Bangkok for such surgeries?

Chalugorn Pet University hospital neae Siam Paragon.

They train all the vets in Thailand and if you ask for it you can get a professor doing the operation. They are the cheapest as well.

Kasertart University also has good reputation.

Yes, kasetsart....where a lot of vets get their training. The vet in Pattaya sent us there. Our Dog had bladder stones and small stones packed in the urethra...we went to emergency very early in the morning, they finally got the catheter in but waited 12 hours for surgery......did finally get in for surgery in the evening clinic. But that is very unusal without an appt.

Prices are fair. Evening vet we had, who actually did the pre-op checkup earlier in the day, had a much better bedside manner if you will. Also, evening clinic/surgery is less

busy...but you still need an appt. for surgery.

Good Luck

Hey guys I recently found vet 4 animal hospital and they have been really good the best i have found in thailand. they are priced about the same as the universities and the service is soo much better. i had to sit and wait for hours at the university hospitals and the facilities are alot better at vet 4. and as far as quality oh health care goes i would say they are equil if not better. the head of surgery is dr. chaiaporn who is the head of the orthopedic surgery board of thailand and the vets at vet4 are all educated in thailand with post grad education from international universities in europe the US and Australia. they even have university professors there for their specialist clinics. and its important to find some where you trust with your pets so i understand. Vet 4 also has an internation manager who is a native english speaker as well His name is Shamus and he was verry helpful. the doctors also speak english and a few of the staff. you can get his mobile and email off the web site.

Sounds like hip dysplasia. Keep in mind he will need physical therapy after the surgery, so make sure the hospital you choose can help with that. Thonglor has good doctors, but I don't know about their surgeons. No waiting, though, and all their doctors speak very good English. Might be worth a try.

Hi :-)

I hope someone can help me.

I recently visited Bangkok Thailand. I realise there are 100s of 1000s of dogs roaming Bangkok who need vet assistance and desexing at the very least. But I can only do so much.

I wish to find a life-long loving home for a young female very sweet undesexed malnourished black dog I met in mid December 2012 at the Wat Yansangwararam or Wat Yan complex Thailand.

The Wat Yansangwararam Temple complex is located some 15 kilometers South of Pattaya at the kilometer 160 exit of Sukhumvit road. I know she is still there. She is not competitive enough with the other Thai temple dogs to obtain enough nutrition.

I gave the tour guide who visits this particular Thailand Buddhist temple some money to purchase food for her but he only visits temple every couple of weeks. This is not sufficient. I have been unsuccessful with SoiDogs and a couple of other dog rescue organisations in Thailand due to the distance from their organisation.

I am hoping to find a vet or an organisation who will rescue her from this situation before she falls pregnant and then re-home her. I have not been successful in finding help. I was told it would be around 1500THB and about 150THB per day for the accommodation, then after 7 days the dog be returned to the Wat. I'm fine covering these costs. This sweet little female dog needs particular urgent assistance. She is young and very friendly. She needs desexing, she is very skinny and malnourished. I saw her trying to eat a stone in the short time I was there.

If all else fails, with someone's assistance in Bangkok (I don't know anyone there personally) I may be able to arrange for her to be placed in quarantine if it's suitable (although this is not ideal due to six month compulsory stay) and then I could have her flown to Australia and I will find a good home for her before she arrives here. I could financially assist in this transport and vaccinations etc. I do not know what quarantine is like in AQIS approved countries. I cannot adopt her as I have 2 cats. Of course this would be a last resort .I'm hoping I won't have to do that.

Could someone please make any recommendations of email and phone contacts of reliable vets in Bangkok who you think would be willing to assist me to help this dog. I would be grateful.

I look forward to your reply

Thanks very much
