Hi All,

We are in the final stages of the annual book purchasing for our students, and would like our Upper Secondary students to go through the IELTS exams sometime later in the year. Having been on the Cambridge website looking at various books, I have found a series of books that seem appropriate, they are the Cambridge IELTS series (Photo Attached).

My question is..... There appear to be 5 books in the series, but in all the introductory blurb, it doesn't say at which age level each book is pitched at, i.e. is IELTS 1 deemed to be set for Secondary 1 etc.?

I am only looking to use these books for our Secondary 5 & 6 students, not the lower secondary students. Any thoughts or insights on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

IELTS is aimed to compare a student's skill and fluency in English with a native speaking 18 year old in order to see if they will be able to study at university in a western country using English.

No account is made for age and some topics will be very difficult for soem younger students.

Those books are just collections of previous tests. They are good supplementary resources but can't be the main study book. Also, some of the speaking tests are from a format not used for quire a few years.

One of the most commonly used text books for IELTS preparation is Insight into IELTS http://www.cambridge.org/elt/insightielts/test.htm

It's aimed at students who are ready to take the exam but need to learn examination strategies specific to IELTS. IE band 5 or 6 students.

There's an academic form of the exam and a general form. The former is for overseas study purposes and the latter is usually for vocational employment in an multinational company or permanent residence requirements (especially in Oz).
