I wanted a rectoscopy of my colon. Bkk-Phuket Dr said= Not neccessary, blood test doesnt should xyz symptoms.

Is that enough??

The key surviving colon cancer is to detect it early. A blood test alone will not detect polyps that may later develop into cancer, only a colonoscopy will. If you are over 45 play it safe and get a colonoscopy every 5 years.

The blood tests referred to are "tumor markers"and not all types of cancer would cause an elevation.

If you are older or if you have a family history or if you are symptomatic, colonoscopy is indicated.

Hi

I have recently had treatment for rectal cancer, read about it here http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/cance...list-t9171.html

The other posters are right a blood test will show cancer markers, any cancer. Get a colostomy or another test called a sphigmoidascope (if I spelt that right) both are relitivly painless, was asked last colonoscopy I had if I wanted to watch, interesting to see but will never make the top 100.

You will get an or several enemas before the test to clean the system, they are torable.

Good luck hope you dont have it.

If you do and want any support give me a call

My 2 coloscopies were painless as it is a narrow tube and I was mostly unconscious. The sigmoidoscopy I had ( whilst conscious ) was a large silver scope put up only about 8 inches......but was one of the most uncomfortable things I've experienced. Second only to a dislocated shoulder.

Another option is a virtual colonoscopy (sp?), although they become more dangerous (due to radiation) after you have had them multiple times. Both the real and virtual colonoscopies miss some polyps...interestingly, they tend to miss different polyps.
