Internet/forum Addiction

Featured Replies

Seriously, any addiction is bad right? Be it cigarettes, booze, gambling etc

I think I am addicted to web surfing and forums.....like thaivisa. It has become a real problem.

Most will read this thread and respond with humour, but I am being deadly serious. I am addicted to websurfing and I need some advice.

As a resultof my addiction I am suffering from information overload, conflicts even, after assimilating so many different takes on different subjects.

I surf the web at work (which is restricted), can't wait to get home to surf even more, right into the small hours in the morning, even 3-4 am in some cases.

Physical symptoms include exhaustion, eye strain, even increased heart rate! Bodily aches and pains from poor posture. Also mental confusion, loss of reasoning ability (as info is available at the touch of a button - no need to think/problem solve), stress/anxiety, irritability, Social life suffering.

I am considering getting rid of the laptop all together. But there is still the restricted access at work and when I haven't had the internet at home I've even driven to public libraries!

Advice?

Call yourself an addict with 46 posts to your name?

Seriously, you must be looking at something. THAT is what you are addicted to.

Good luck

Ok, if you're being serious, and I will assume you are, I'd suggest that you find a cognitive therapist/psychologist who specializes in the treatment of addictions. Cognitive beavioural therapy (CBT) has been found to be quite effective in the areas of addiction.

Any addiction is debilitating - and you've got insight into yourself that you notice the detrimental changes going on, both in physical and mental health. That's why I feel that CBT would benefit you. It's up to you to find someone in your area who can help you with this.

You're welcome to PM me if you've got any questions.
